Mumbai 5/15: Having Breakfast at a Hotel in Bombay

One morning in Mumbai, or as many still call it “Bombay,” I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to start the day with breakfast at a small hotel in the city center. Here, it’s not just about the taste but experiencing Indian lifestyle and culture through simple yet charming dishes.

The hotel where I stayed is located not far from the financial district and the large seaside fish market of Mumbai. For those interested in fresh seafood from the Arabian Sea, you can continue your journey there after fueling up with this breakfast. The large seaside fish market of Mumbaiis another spot I enjoy walking around. The fresh scent of fish and the lively chatter of vendors make you feel the vibrant life of a city that never sleeps.

Back to the hotel breakfast, the dining room atmosphere is modest but clean and friendly. The staff are cheerful and ready to recommend authentic Indian breakfast dishes. I chose to try bothUpma, Dosaand a hot Indian tea set that helped awaken my senses after a long night of travel.

Upma is a South Indian breakfast made from semolina or coarse wheat flour mixed with spices and various vegetables. It has a mild flavor and fragrant spices, served with peanut and tamarind chutneys that balance sweet and sour perfectly. Dosa is a thin, crispy crepe-like pancake served with spicy mashed potatoes and a variety of chutneys. Both dishes are easy to find but rich in Indian culinary culture.

In Mumbai, you will find a much wider variety of breakfasts than you might expect because this financial capital brings together people from all over India. Hotel breakfasts often include both local and international menus. If you want to try authentic Mumbai-style food, I recommend walking to a nearby market and ordering local breakfast dishes such asa handful of traditional Mumbai disheswhich include lentil soup, crispy fried dough, and bread dipped in spicy curry—dishes I personally love.

After energizing with the hotel breakfast, I still had time to stroll and explore the nearby neighborhood. Morning walks in Mumbai are the best time because the streets are not too crowded, the sunlight is gentle, and markets begin selling fresh produce. You will see people heading to work, selling goods, or preparing to start their day with enthusiasm.

If you are interested in full street food experiences, I recommend watching the videoMumbai Street Food (Mumbai)that I recorded, showing the real lifestyle here and street food menus so delicious they deserve a thumbs up. Or watch the videoMumbai Fried Chicken (Mumbai)which clearly shows the true flavors and atmosphere of roadside food.

But if I were to talk about hotel breakfasts in Mumbai, I think it’s a great starting point for anyone who loves deep travel—not just eating to fill up but to understand cultural roots through simple menus. Here, there is warmth and attention to detail, even in an ordinary breakfast.

For anyone planning to visit Mumbai, I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying the hotel breakfast experience first, then exploring markets and street food around the city. I guarantee every bite will be full of stories and unforgettable memories.
