Xaysomboun Province: Opening the door to Laos' new province with mr.hotsia

January 8, 2014 is a date I, mr.hotsia, remember well because Laos announced the establishment of its 17th province, which isXaysomboun ProvinceI recently had the chance to experience the atmosphere of this province after passing through Thathom town during my journey from Xiangkhouang to Vientiane. It made me quite excited to explore a province still new to many travelers.

Xaysomboun Province consists of 5 main towns: Rom, Thathom, Anouvong, Longchan, and Longjang. It is a newly established administrative area with a population of about 801,801 people and approximately 7,800 households, based on reliable sources I collected.

Atmosphere and Lifestyle in Xaysomboun Province

When I passed through Thathom town in Xaysomboun Province, the atmosphere was simple yet full of authentic Lao rural charm. Roads are still under construction and improvement, indicating efforts to develop and better connect this town with other parts of the country.

The lifestyle of people here remains typical of Lao countryside: warm community spirit and a self-sufficient way of living. I saw local vendors selling traditional products and delicious local foods. Visiting here feels like stepping back in time to experience traditional culture that many might miss in big cities.

Traveling to Xaysomboun Province

For travelers interested in visiting this province, I, mr.hotsia, recommend traveling fromVientianeas the most convenient and safest option. The main route from Xiangkhouang is still incomplete, especially during the rainy season when driving is difficult due to ongoing road construction and repairs.

I inquired at the Xiangkhouang bus station and was advised that daily bus services from Xiangkhouang to Xaysomboun are available, but traveling directly from Vientiane is more convenient and safer. Therefore, I plan to take this route next time to fully experience the local atmosphere and lifestyle.

Attractions Around Xaysomboun Province and mr.hotsia's Perspective

Although Xaysomboun Province is not yet well known among tourists, for me it is a golden opportunity to experience authentic Laos without embellishment. Seeing the development and growth of this province reminds me of the importance of travel not just for convenience but also to learn and understand culture and lifestyles that remain natural.

If you enjoy deep travel and want to discover new charms in a neighboring country, try planning a visit to Xaysomboun Province. I guarantee you will have a different experience compared to other provinces in Laos.
