Backpacking in the Philippines 5: Breakfast at a hotel in Laoag, Philippines (Casa De Renzo hotel Laoag Philippines)

Hello dear readers, today mr.hotsia will take you to experience an extraordinary morning atmosphere in the city of Laoag, Philippines, through the eyes of a backpacker like myself. This stay is at Casa De Renzo hotel, located in the heart of Laoag, a city known as the gateway to northern Luzon Island, Philippines.

The morning I woke up at Casa De Renzo, the hotel looked clean, tidy, and cozy. The warm welcome from the staff made me feel like visiting relatives. The morning sunlight streaming through the room's window refreshed me, along with the anticipation of tasting the local breakfast prepared by the hotel.

Breakfast here is not just plain rice porridge or ordinary bread, but a blend of Filipino flavors and simplicity that appeals to travelers like me. The dish I was impressed with was “Tapioca pudding” drizzled with fragrant sweet syrup, and a Filipino-style omelet fried crispy on the outside and soft inside, served with strong black coffee unique to the Philippines.

One thing I really liked was that breakfast here was not served as a large set but rather as a thoughtful invitation to taste each item carefully, like learning culture through food. Many dishes include local herbs and spices, making every bite fresh and lively.

During my stay at Casa De Renzo, I had the chance to talk with the hotel owner, a local person. He shared stories about the lifestyle of people in Laoag and the traditional breakfast preparation passed down through generations. It was a great opportunity to learn the mindset and love the locals have for food and their guests.

For those who have followed mr.hotsia’s travels in the Philippines, you know that Laoag is a city not crowded with foreign tourists. The tranquility and simplicity of the people here are charms that make me want to return. After tasting breakfast at this hotel, I also had the chance to stroll around the Laoag morning market nearby,Laoag morning market street foodsampling various street foods that no visitor should miss.

For backpackers who love simplicity filled with flavor and culture, Casa De Renzo in Laoag is a great starting point that makes you feel like visiting an old friend’s home. It’s not just an ordinary hotel; this accommodation is like a bridge connecting you to the true Philippines hidden in a small corner of Laoag.

Additionally, mr.hotsia would like to recommend a boat trip on the Mekong River on the Laos side, which is not far from here.
