Experience the life of farmers in Magway Region, Myanmar with mr.hotsia
For me, mr.hotsia, traveling to Magway Region in Myanmar is not just ordinary tourism but a journey back to experience the life of farmers, which I feel deeply connected to because my parents were farmers. I also farmed since childhood before changing my path to study at Benjamarachutit School, Chachoengsao (Paet Riu) from grade 10 onwards, which reduced my real-life farming opportunities. But when I visited Magway Region, I saw the farming lifestyle of Burmese farmers, which, although different from ours, is beautiful and very interesting.
Magway Region is located in central Myanmar and consists of 5 townships. The capital city, Magway, is situated on the eastern bank of the Irrawaddy River, Myanmar's major river, which I have previously introduced for its beauty inIrrawaddy River Article, MyanmarThe Irrawaddy River is not only an important transportation route but also the lifeblood of the people living in Magway Region.
Differences in the Farming Lifestyle in Magway Region
One thing I really liked in Magway Region was seeing the farming methods of Burmese farmers, which are clearly different from ours. In Thailand, when transplanting rice seedlings, farmers carry seedlings to the fields and flood the fields before working together to plant. But in Myanmar, I saw farmers put the seedlings into a cart, then drive the cart across the fields, scattering the seedlings widely. This method seemed very convenient and interesting to me. Their planting method is also different because they do not need much water. I noticed dry fields similar to the Tai Lue rice planting method in Sri Don Chai that I visited before. It is a simplicity filled with local knowledge and experience.
Morning Market and Local Food in Magway
Besides the farming lifestyle, visiting the morning market is another activity I really enjoyed in Magway Region. The Pyin Oo Lwin Morning Market, not far from Magway city, is a market I had the chance to explore and film local life. Although the market is not as large as those in big cities, it has charm in its simplicity, offering fresh vegetables, fruits, and interesting local foods. The locals here are friendly and eager to talk with me, which encouraged me to take more photos and videos, unlike some markets where locals are less welcoming.Pyin Oo Lwin Morning MarketIt became one of the places I was very impressed with.
Speaking of food in Magway Region, I had the chance to eat Burmese food here several times, from street stalls to local restaurants. The Burmese food in Magway is rich in spices but not overly spicy. Common dishes include Burmese-style basil rice, bean curry, and local fish from the Irrawaddy River. I even made a videoEating Burmese Food in Magway Regionto capture the atmosphere and flavors I enjoyed for you to see.
Convenience of Travel and Accommodation in Magway Region
For travelers interested in experiencing the atmosphere and lifestyle in Magway, traveling here is not difficult because there is Magway Airport, which connects to other major cities in Myanmar. You can also continue to other tourist destinations such as Nyaungshwe, which I have recommended inNyaungshwe CityandChoosing Hotels in Inle, NyaungshweI usually recommend staying near Nyaungshwe before cruising Inle Lake because accommodations and activities are complete there.
In Magway Region itself, I stayed at a small hotel by the Irrawaddy River, which allowed me to experience a peaceful atmosphere close to nature. Waking up to see rice fields and the river in the morning sunlight reminded me of my hometown and old memories I never forget.
