Recommended guesthouses in Yangon, Myanmar: Comfortable and affordable accommodations by mr.hotsia
For those planning to travel toYangonthis former capital city of Myanmar, I, mr.hotsia, would like to share my personal experience with guesthouse accommodations that I found very worthwhile and pleasant. Not only are the prices affordable, but they are also located in the heart of the city, convenient for travel, close to markets, and many important tourist attractions.
Okinawa Guest House Yangon – Affordable and Good in the Heart of Yangon
This guesthouse is one of the accommodations I chose when visiting Yangon. It offers great value at about 750 THB (25 USD) per night. If you stay two nights, the price is only 900 THB (30 USD), which is cheaper than most hotels in the city that tend to be quite expensive. The quality you get is beyond expectations.
The location of Okinawa Guest House is very good, situated near the Pagoda Mosque. It’s a short walk to the fresh market. I enjoy strolling in the morning and stopping to eat Burmese street food not far from the guesthouse. For traveling toShwedagon Pagodaa taxi costs only about 60 THB (2,000 Kyat), which is very convenient.
The atmosphere of the accommodation is quite simple, nothing luxurious, but clean and friendly. The owner and staff take great care. I like the truly local vibe, which makes you feel like you are experiencing the Burmese way of life more deeply. This place is suitable for backpackers or anyone wanting to save money but still desires convenience and safety.
May Shan Hotel – Another Option Near Pagoda Mosque
Another option I have stayed at, booked online through Agoda, is May Shan Hotel. The price is 1,500 THB per night. It offers WiFi in the lobby and includes breakfast. This hotel is also located next to the Pagoda Mosque, a very good location, suitable for those wanting full convenience at a mid-range price.
However, I felt this price was somewhat high for the quality received. The room I stayed in had no windows, which was unusual for me because normally accommodations in big cities have windows to view outside. This was not only at May Shan; I stayed at another place in Yangon also without windows. It might be a style of accommodation in this city. If you prefer airy rooms, you should ask clearly before booking.
Why did I choose guesthouses in Yangon?
From my personal experience, choosing to stay in guesthouses in Yangon saves a lot of expenses, especially compared to hotels in Yangon that are often expensive and do not differ much in quality. Moreover, if you enjoy the atmosphere of experiencing local life, staying in guesthouses allows you to meet people, talk with the owners, and get good travel advice for the city.
Yangon is a city full of charm, history, and culture, fromShwedagon Pagodawhich is sacred, to bustling fresh markets full of food and daily life. Staying near these places makes your sightseeing much more convenient and saves travel time.
Traveling from Yangon Airport to the City
Upon arriving at Yangon International Airport, about 15 kilometers from the city center, I recommend taking a taxi from the airport to the city. The fare I have paid is about 8 USD or around 8,000 Kyat. Getting a taxi at the airport is easy, with drivers waiting and prices negotiable, which is much more convenient than using public transportation.
For those unsure about accommodations or arriving late, I recommend booking a hotel through Agoda in advance, especially guesthouses like Okinawa Guest House that I recommend. They offer cheaper prices than regular hotel rooms and provide a truly local atmosphere.
mr.hotsia’s Experience and Impressions of Yangon
Throughout my trip, I found Yangon to be an interesting city both culturally and in terms of local life. It also has delicious and diverse Burmese food. I have written aboutBurmese FoodandStreet Food in Yangonwhich anyone interested in food should not miss.
Staying in guesthouses gave me the chance to talk with other travelers and locals who provided great information about tourist spots and activities in the city, such as taking theCircle Line Trainwhich takes about 3 hours and is a great way to see Yangon’s local life from perspectives that most tourists might miss.
Summary
If you are looking for affordable accommodation in Yangon located in the city center, near markets and important places,Okinawa Guest House Yangonis the answer I, mr.hotsia, recommend without hesitation. It suits travelers who like simplicity, convenience, and want to experience the real life of Myanmar’s city. For those wanting more comfort and a bigger budget,May Shan Hotelis also a good option.
Remember, Yangon is not only about tourist attractions but also about fascinating local life and culture. I invite everyone to visit this city for themselves, and you will fall in love with it just like me, mr.hotsia.
