I read on the web before visiting Kalaw (KALAW) that this town is famous for its wine and delicious tea. When I actually visited, I found wine shops in the market and along the street at reasonable prices. However, I found the wine here a bit too sweet, tasting somewhat like sweeter than usual Ma Me wine.
I recommend choosing the slightly more expensive wine bottles, as they might offer better taste. As for me, I’m not a wine expert, just trying it for a change from beer and spirits to enjoy the atmosphere of Kalaw (KALAW), the wine town. Besides Kalaw (KALAW), there is also Pyin U Lwin, a cool hill town with many affordable wines and a wide selection. Pyin U Lwin is only one hour away from Mandalay.
Back to Kalaw wine, you can buy it in the market and open it at a restaurant or order directly at the restaurant. I recommend ordering at the restaurant. When I ate, I went to Myanmar Food restaurant opposite the Honey Pine Hotel where I stayed.
