The authentic Shwedagon Pagoda is in Yangon. I know of at least two replicas: one in Tachileik, Shan State,

and one here in Naypyidaw, the capital of Myanmar, where I am visiting now. Although it is a replica, it is very grand. I think the one in Naypyidaw is even bigger than the one in Tachileik. The Shwedagon Pagoda complex here includes a nearby accommodation zone. I rode a motorcycle to take photos and videos of the pagoda at night. The lighting is very beautiful. This Shwedagon Pagoda allows visitors to enter and pay respects inside. There is a central pillar with Buddha statues on four sides, and the inner walls are marble carved with the Buddha's life story.
From birth, aging, sickness, to death of the Buddha. This Shwedagon Pagoda has an elevator. Visitors wearing shorts must rent a longyi or skirt from the entrance and must remove shoes like in other temples. From the top of the pagoda, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views. It’s perfect for worship and sightseeing. For visiting the replica Shwedagon Pagoda, I recommend renting a motorcycle for a day at 15 USD (15,000 kyat) to cover all attractions in Naypyidaw.
Except for the Three Kings Monument where military parades are held, which is about 50 kilometers away. For the evening, I suggest dining at the popular Junction Center mall and then renting a motorcycle for a night tour, round trip costing about 200-300 baht. It’s not far, but prices are higher at night. Be careful driving at night in Naypyidaw because roads can suddenly disappear. You need to help the driver watch out. I almost had a serious accident, but luckily the car behind honked in time to avoid it, otherwise mr.hotsia
might have become just a legend because I wasn’t wearing a helmet. mr.hotsia August 2013 Book hotels in Naypyidaw now.
