The original Phra That Phanom collapsed several years ago. This visit to Phra That Phanom by Mr.Hotsia is my first time. The stupa you see now is a newly built one replacing the collapsed original. The stupa looks beautiful and majestic against the bright blue sky on the day I visited.

I researched the history of Phra That Phanom and spoke with local residents. It is said that Phra That Phanom was built around 500 B.E. by five arhats, constructed simultaneously with the Great Stupa in Vientiane. It has been renovated multiple times. On August 11, 1975, Phra That Phanom collapsed, leading to excavations to find the stupa according to legend. At first, it was not found and some doubted the legend of the five arhats, but eventually the stupa was discovered exactly as the legend described.
This confirms 100% that other stupas with legends are also true. Besides finding the Buddha's relics, many valuable items were discovered. There are also Buddha images on the walls. Locals told me that on the night the stupa collapsed, there was heavy rain for several days and gunshot-like sounds were heard. Later, it was known that Phra That Phanom had collapsed. Actually, it should be called a subsidence rather than a collapse, because it did not fall over like tall structures but sank straight down.
This caused no damage to people or houses. Phra That Phanom is not located in Nakhon Phanom city but in That Phanom district, about 50 km from Nakhon Phanom city center.
