hotsia kids School Break Trip 5/26: Mukdahan, the riverside city kids will love

I, mr.hotsia, recently took my children on a trip to Mukdahan during the 5/26 school break. This trip was full of fun experiences and authentic Isan flavors unlike any other. Mukdahan, a province located on the Mekong River opposite Savannakhet in Laos, is a lively border town with diverse lifestyles and food that filled our family with both satisfaction and joy.

Start the new day atMukdahan Morning MarketA hub of Vietnamese culture

On the first morning, my kids and I went to the famous Mukdahan morning market. This market is not just an ordinary fresh market but a place deeply blending Vietnamese culture. Many Vietnamese food stalls with vendors speaking Vietnamese lively created an atmosphere that reminded me of my trip to Vietnam years ago.

The kids loved most sitting and eatingRice noodle soupserved hot with fragrant spices and a rich broth. I even taught the kids some Vietnamese greetings to make the experience more memorable. For those interested in seeing how it’s made and the full market atmosphere, I recommend watching the videoMukdahan Morning Market Rice Noodle Soup Mukdahan local foodhere.

Explore the night market, a lively evening spot

At sunset, we didn’t miss a stroll atthe Night Marketa food and goods market that serves as a meeting point for locals and tourists alike. I remember the market filled with the aroma of Isan food and traditional snacks. The kids tried grilled chicken, larb, and spicy soup, all with authentic flavors worthy of Mukdahan’s reputation as an Isan food city.

The night market also offered toys and trendy items for teens, making the kids enjoy browsing, and I was happy to see them truly experience local life.

Boat trip across the Mekong to Savannakhet, a new experience for the kids

One highlight of this trip was taking the kids across the border to Laos by ferry from the pier next to the Indochina market. Traveling by boat was easy and fun for the kids as they saw the wide Mekong River and various boats passing by. The ferry runs several trips daily, costing only 50 baht per person.

I recommend going in the morning or early afternoon for a pleasant atmosphere and a relaxed border crossing experience. The kids enjoyed seeing the differences between the two riverbanks, including the architecture and lifestyle of the Laotian side, which differs slightly from Thailand. Sightseeing Mukdahan city from above atMukdahan Glass Tower

On the second day of the trip, we visited Mukdahan Glass Tower early in the morning when the weather was still cool. It was the perfect time to enjoy a full panoramic view of the city from about 50 meters high. The kids saw both the Laotian side and Mukdahan city in a wide panorama.

On the second floor of the tower, there is an exhibition about the indigenous tribes in the area. I let the kids read and learn about the different cultures seriously, which is a rare experience not often found in typical travel.

For those who want to stay near the Glass Tower, I have recommendedSub Mukda Hotelwhich is comfortable, affordable, close to main attractions, and family-friendly.

Ending with authentic Isan food and nighttime atmosphere

After strolling through the markets and sightseeing, in the evening we enjoyed delicious Isan dishes with many options like larb, spicy soup, and grilled items at reasonable prices. The kids had fun trying new foods, some of which became their favorites.

For adults wanting to experience Mukdahan’s nightlife, I recommend walking aroundthe nightlife scenenear Mukdahan Glass Tower, where karaoke bars and small bars offer places to relax from the heat. The atmosphere is lively and friendly.

Summary of hotsia kids trip to Mukdahan
