Surat Thani Sour Curry @ Lamphu 2 – A must-try authentic flavor from the field by mr.hotsia
When it comes to Southern Thai food that makes me say wow,Surat Thani Sour Curryis one of my favorite dishes that I consider a true representative of hometown flavors. This time, I had the chance to stop by and taste it atLamphu 2 Restaurantin downtown Surat Thani. I must say this experience made me fall in love with sour curry many times over.
Lamphu 2 is located not far from the heart of Surat Thani city, easy to get to, and the atmosphere is simple, as if taking us to truly experience the local way of life. I traveled from Surat Thani Airport via the main road into the city and followed the GPS without any trouble. This restaurant is one of the Southern Thai eateries locals recommend without hesitation.
The sour curry here differs from those in many other provinces because Surat Thani uses a rich curry paste and fresh ingredients, especially fresh vegetables and large sea bass pieces that I tried in this sour curry. The taste is bold, perfectly balanced sweet and sour, with the aroma of Southern curry paste that some might say is "too intense," but for me, this is the perfect harmony that makes my taste buds dance.
The sour curry at Lamphu 2 includes local vegetables such as cha-om, Chinese cabbage, or young coconut shoots, each adding freshness and texture to the curry. My favorite is the thick sea bass pieces, cooked just right—not mushy or tough. Paired with hot steamed rice, it’s so delicious I have to share.
For those wanting to experience another side of fresh seafood in Surat Thani, I recommend taking a stroll atSurat Thani Morning Marketwhich is a hub for fresh ingredients and interesting local foods. I have also captured photos and videos of the atmosphere there on my YouTube channel. Back to Lamphu 2, I want to emphasize that the atmosphere here makes you feel like eating at a Southern friend's home. It’s not a fancy or modern-decorated restaurant, but the sincerity and the cook’s skill impressed me. Every time I eat sour curry here, it feels like going back to old memories of eating sour curry at home in my childhood.
Besides the sour curry at Lamphu 2, Surat Thani also offers many interesting local dishes such asLocal dishes of Koh Samuior if you are a fan of fresh seafood protein, don’t miss trying the sea bass congee atthe Lawyer’s Office Restaurant by the Riverside in front of Surat Thani Marketwhich I have also reviewed.
