Payanak Water Spout, a symbol of Songkhla that you must see with your own eyes
My mr.hotsia Songkhla trip this time has the main destination at Songkhla Two Seas Park, the location of the Payanak Water Spout sculpture, which is considered one of Songkhla's important landmarks. Many may be familiar with Singapore's Merlion, but this Payanak Water Spout has a unique charm and impressive story.
Songkhla Two Seas Park is located on a cape between Songkhla Lake and the Gulf of Thailand. The atmosphere here perfectly blends the calmness of fresh and saltwater. I strolled and enjoyed the view during the day, with sunlight shining through the body of the green-patinated brass Payanak spouting water into the lake. The details of the artwork are very clear at this time, especially the lines and structure designed by Professor Montri Sangmusikanon, who was the Vice President of Thaksin University at that time.
The Payanak's head is about 9 meters tall with a body diameter of 1.20 meters. It is a creation designed to be viewed from all sides with no hidden angles. I walked around to admire the Payanak's beauty from every perspective while capturing the peaceful Songkhla Lake contrasting with the shining brass body. I believe anyone visiting Songkhla who misses this place truly misses out.
Three parts of the Payanak spread throughout Songkhla
It's not only the Payanak's head at Songkhla Two Seas Park that is interesting. There are two more parts of the Payanak water spout scattered around Songkhla city for us to experience. The second part is the Payanak's navel at the Lotus Pond Star Viewing Area, Samila Cape. This spot stands out with the Payanak's body curved in a semicircle, measuring 1.20 meters in diameter, 5 meters in length, and 2.50 meters in height. Visitors can pass under the Payanak's navel for good luck. I tried passing through and felt like I received positive energy.
The third part is the Payanak's tail, located at Samila Beach near Sadao Road, close to the golf course. The body measures 1.20 meters in diameter, 4 meters in length, and 4.50 meters in height, completing the story of the Payanak Water Spout in Songkhla perfectly.
Night atmosphere at Payanak Water Spout, Songkhla Two Seas Park
I returned again in the evening and at night. The atmosphere at Songkhla Two Seas Park changed amazingly. The lights illuminating the Payanak sculpture make the brass glow and reflect sparkling water droplets. Night photography enthusiasts will not be disappointed here. Nearby is a statue of Prince of Chumphon, adding a sense of connection to Songkhla's local history and culture.
To get to Songkhla Two Seas Park, if you don't have a private car, you can take a tuk-tuk from Songkhla city for about 20 baht. Tuk-tuk fares in central Songkhla are reasonable, but plan your return well because if you visit at night, having the same tuk-tuk driver wait for you is very convenient. I recommend this as I have experienced difficulty finding transportation at night here.
Stop to taste delicious food in Songkhla city
After seeing the Payanak Water Spout and strolling by Songkhla Lake, I recommend trying local food at Kim Yong Market. If you want fresh seafood not far from Samila Cape, Ranot offers delicious dishes such asDeep-fried Threadfin FishOr if you like spicy dishes likeStir-fried Spicy Sea CatfishDon't miss walking along the Songkhla Clock Tower Walking Street, which hasChan-style Pad ThaiVery delicious with authentic original flavors.
Songkhla is a city that perfectly blends Thai culture and local traditions, whether it's the lakeside lifestyle, fresh seafood markets, or artistic attractions like the Payanak Water Spout I just described. If you want to truly experience the atmosphere, here you will find not only natural beauty but also warm feelings from the locals.
