Eating Local Food in Hat Yai with mr.hotsia

When talking about Hat Yai, many might think of the bustling southern city rich in cultural diversity. But for me, mr.hotsia, this trip to Hat Yai was not just about shopping or enjoying sea views, but about tracing the authentic local flavors hidden in the alleys and old markets of this city.

Hat Yai is a city where cultural diversity is clearly reflected through its food, whether it’s Thai Muslim cuisine, Teochew Chinese dishes, or authentic southern Thai food blended harmoniously. I, mr.hotsia, started by walking into Kim Yong Market, a fresh market that is the center of Hat Yai’s local food. This is not just an ordinary market but a hub of fresh ingredients and small eateries that have been around for decades.

For those who love pork blood soup, I must say the pork blood soup at Kim Yong Market in Hat Yaiis a special recipe I have shared before. Its flavor is rich and balanced, with a clear broth full of the aroma of Chinese herbs and fresh pork blood. Eating it in the morning with hot sticky rice is pure bliss.

Then I, mr.hotsia, didn’t miss trying the local dessert at the Pak Kad dessert shop in Kim Yong Market. An original recipe that still maintains its quality.Hat Yai’s Pak Kad dessert is crispy on the outside, soft inside, with a slight spice aroma. Eating it with sweet and salty dipping sauce is the charm of local food that should not be missed.

Another dish I, mr.hotsia, must recommend is the pig tail noodle at Yin Kit restaurant, which I have written about before. The special feature of Hat Yai’s pig tail noodle is the slow-cooked offal and pig tail until tender, the broth simmered to a sweet and balanced flavor, and the chewy noodles. Every bite reflects the care and wisdom of the locals.

Besides the food at Kim Yong Market, I, mr.hotsia, also took a stroll at the Clock Tower Walking Street. This place is not just a shopping spot but also a gathering place for local dishes like Chanthaburi-style Pad Thai, a Songkhla specialty many are unaware of.Brother Kan said it’s very delicious. The Pad Thai noodles are chewy, stir-fried with a special sauce and fresh side ingredients, making the taste uniquely outstanding.

For those wanting to venture outside Hat Yai, I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying seafood in Ranot, Songkhla, such as stir-fried spicy sea catfish, which I have eaten before.Or crispy fried sea mullet fish cake, with the seaside atmosphere in Ranotthat makes the food taste fresh and filled with the scent of the sea breeze.

I, mr.hotsia, also watched a video about eating local food in Hat Yai on the YouTube channel titled “Eating Local Food in Hat Yai.”Watch it herewhich enhances the atmosphere and clearly shows each dish. If you want to see special menus from Ranot, try watching the video “Cooking at Ranot.”Click hereor “Ranot Crab Fried Rice.”This videowhich I, mr.hotsia, must say made me hungry enough to plan another trip to eat again.

For me, this trip to Hat Yai was not just tourism but a new experience discovering the true flavors of southern local food that reflect cultural diversity, dedication in cooking, and the warm, lovely lifestyle of southern people.

Anyone planning to visit southern Thailand, especially Hat Yai, I, mr.hotsia, recommend preparing your heart and an empty stomach, then go on a hunt for local flavors here. I guarantee you will experience deep, unforgettable deliciousness.
