Phetchaburi Coastal Road: A hidden charm on a new route for travelers

I, Mr.Hotsia, have traveled to Phetchaburi province many times but have only just discovered the route calledPhetchaburi Coastal RoadA beautiful coastal route full of fascinating stories of the seaside people's lives. This route stretches from Puek Tian Beach to Ban Laem District, passing Laem Phak Bia, Laem Laew, Khlong Klon, Bang Tabun, Bang Yi San, and ending at Khlong Khon. Each stop along the way offers different lifestyles and natural scenery. Each section remains peaceful, with few cars and beautiful views, making it perfect for a scenic drive.

This trip started from Phetchaburi town where I stopped to seesalt fieldsthat still use traditional salt farming methods. The locals here are very kind and willing to share stories about salt farming, which requires patience and specialized knowledge. During the hot season, the salt fields are lined with beautiful salt barns that look like paintings. In other seasons, the salt fields appear vast and open as far as the eye can see. This is a great opportunity to truly experience the lifestyle of seaside villagers.

I drove along the coast passing Laem Khon, which is home toa swiftlet condowhere many swiftlets gather. This natural phenomenon is fascinating for bird and nature lovers. I planned to stay at a homestay in the middle of the sea at Khlong Khon, a popular tourist spot for catching blood cockles and sleeping on 'Kateang' rafts in the sea. However, upon arrival, I found that the homestay only accommodates large groups of at least ten people. So, I changed my plan to stay in Amphawa instead, which also has its own charm.

The charm of this coastal road lies in its tranquility and preserved natural state. In the hot season, this road is filled with salt fields and salt barns used by locals to store their harvest. There are also scenic viewpoints and chances to talk with villagers who still live simply but happily with what they do. I recommend stopping at various points to experience real life and capture the seaside atmosphere different from crowded beaches.

For travelers wanting to try a new route from Bangkok, you can take Rama II Road to Phetchaburi and Cha-am, then turn onto this coastal road. It is a shortcut that not only reduces travel time but also offers a different atmosphere from the main roads.

Besides the Phetchaburi Coastal Road, this province has many other interesting aspects such asthe Hua Hin Water Squeeze Phenomenonwhich once occurred and affected the lives of coastal fishermen, as well as local markets offering fresh seafood and temples with long histories. I, Mr.Hotsia, have stopped to taste fresh seafood at Bang Tabun market and talked with fishermen who shared fascinating stories about their coastal livelihoods.

If you are looking for a quiet destination where you can truly experience the lifestyle of Thai seaside villagers, Phetchaburi Coastal Road is an answer not to be overlooked. I, Mr.Hotsia, recommend planning your trip during good weather and don’t forget to bring your camera to capture the beauty of this route as a lasting memory.

Finally, if you want to see the real atmosphere from my trip, you can watchthe Phetchaburi Coastal Road videothat I recorded during the journey to see close-up views of the scenery and seaside way of life.
