Feast on Pak Phanang Seafood
When talking about Nakhon Si Thammarat province, many might think of Wat Phra Mahathat and its beautiful nature. But for me, mr.hotsia, Pak Phanang is one of the must-visit destinations every time I come to the south. This place is a paradise for seafood lovers, offering fresh seafood straight from the sea to the table quickly and at great value, something you won't find elsewhere.
Pak Phanang is a small town by the Gulf of Thailand with a large fishing port. Being by the sea means the seafood here is fresh daily, whether shrimp, shellfish, crab, fish, or squid. Importantly, the prices are traveler-friendly, just like for me.
That day, I started my journey from downtown Nakhon Si Thammarat heading to Pak Phanang. It took about an hour, with an easy and short route. Upon arriving, the first thing that caught my eye was the lively atmosphere of the seafood market full of colors from vendors and fishermen selling fresh catches. I walked around the market and truly felt the vibrant spirit of this community.
A must-try dish I recommend is the “Grilled Shrimp” — large, firm, and perfectly charred with the aroma of wood charcoal, served with a spicy seafood dipping sauce that perfectly balances sour, sweet, and spicy flavors. For those who like bold flavors, the sour curry with sea bass and young coconut shoots here is equally outstanding. The rich curry, fragrant with authentic southern spices, made me keep sipping the broth without wanting to put my spoon down.
Besides fresh seafood, Pak Phanang also has local restaurants serving traditional Nakhon Si Thammarat dishes. If you're interested in authentic local cuisine, you can continue reading the articleNakhon Si Thammarat Local Cuisinewhere I have compiled complete stories and must-try dishes.
For dining atmosphere in Pak Phanang, I recommend sitting by the sea to enjoy fresh air and beautiful sunset views while savoring seafood. Additionally, there are popular roadside eateries favored by locals, such as the ones I visited in the video.Feast on Pak Phanang Seafoodwhere I shared a full dining experience, capturing the taste and freshness you won’t find anywhere else.
Another highlight not to miss is a stroll through the morning market here. The market in front of Phra That in Nakhon Si Thammarat city is another spot I, mr.hotsia, like to visit to experience local life and diverse foods. If you want to know more about this market, please read my articlePhra That Market, Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincefor more details.
Besides seafood, Pak Phanang is also a gateway to exploring the warm fishing community and riverside lifestyle. I had the chance to talk with locals who take pride in the freshness of their seafood and sustainable sea conservation. Eating here is not just about flavor but also a deep cultural learning experience.
Finally, if you are planning a trip to the south and love seafood, I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend visiting Pak Phanang yourself. Experience the real atmosphere, walk the markets, and feast on seafood here. Then you will understand why I am so deeply in love with this place.
