Travel information about Chaiyaphum by mr.hotsia
Chaiyaphum is a province that I, mr.hotsia, am deeply impressed by, not only because of its peace and simple lifestyle but also its proud local history, especially the story ofChao Pho Phaya Laewho shaped the love of country and bravery that remains firmly remembered by the people of this province.
I had the opportunity to travel and experience Chaiyaphum myself, seeing a quiet city full of charm rarely found in big cities. The history of Phaya Lae that I heard showed me that the older generation of Chaiyaphum people truly love their hometown. They migrated from Vientiane since 1817 and fought to defend the city during the battles in the Korat plains. Phaya Lae joined the fight and was eventually executed for refusing to side with Lord Anuwong. These stories made me pause respectfully at the Chao Pho Phaya Lae monument in the city center, feeling deeply connected to the heritage of Chaiyaphum people.
Chaiyaphum is a province located in a basin area, making it prone to flooding, so locals often joke, “It can flood even without rain.” But what I experienced was quiet development, wide roads, unhurried people, friendly and warm. I stayed two nights at Dee Prom Hotel in the city center. Driving around was convenient with ample parking. Though a small city, it is well-equipped. Seeing this, I think Chaiyaphum might be the dream city I want to live in someday.
Morning Market Experience and Alms Giving to Luang Pho Wat Pha Koeng
One morning, I woke up early and walked to Chaiyaphum’s morning market. It was special because I saw many locals waiting to give alms to Luang Pho Wat Pha Koeng, a forest monk highly respected by people in the province and nearby areas. I waited until almost 8 a.m. when Luang Pho arrived amid the rain. It was a warm and truly faithful scene.Read about Alms Giving to Luang Pho Wat Pha Koeng at Chaiyaphum Morning Marketto better understand the atmosphere and meaning of this ceremony.
Local Food and Evening Atmosphere at Walking Street
If you come to Chaiyaphum without tasting local food, you miss out. I tasted dishes at Som Tum Krung Kao restaurant. This place is great — fresh grilled fish with sweet meat and fragrant grilled chicken served with rice noodles and fresh vegetables similar to Miang Pla Pao but without wrapping. Perfect for someone like me trying to diet (though I wonder if it really helps). The atmosphere is very friendly. The restaurant is always full of locals. I highly recommend stopping by if you visit Chaiyaphum.Som Tum Krung Kao Restaurant Chaiyaphumfor sure.
If you want to experience Chaiyaphum’s nightlife atmosphere, I recommend relaxing at Chaiyaphum Walking Street, which has a unique vibe unlike busy walking markets in big cities. This walking street feels like an evening food market with food and clothes for sale. It’s busiest on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. What I like is the relaxed atmosphere, not too crowded, and no tall buildings blocking the beautiful sunset in the evening.Read details about Chaiyaphum Walking Streetandwatch the evening atmosphere of Chaiyaphum Walking Streethere.
Accommodation and Transportation in Chaiyaphum
Although Chaiyaphum is a peaceful and quiet province, there are not many hotels. I once drove around looking for accommodation and got tired because I didn’t book in advance. I recommend booking hotels ahead for better prices and peace of mind. Getting around the city is very convenient with wide roads, easy parking, and locals driving calmly without rushing.
Districts and Attractions in Chaiyaphum Province
Chaiyaphum consists of several districts with unique and interesting features, such as Mueang Chaiyaphum, Ban Khwao, Khon San, Kaset Sombun, Nong Bua Daeng, Chatturat, Bamnet Narong, and Kangkho. Especially Kangkho district, which I visited, is the commercial and educational center in the northern part of Chaiyaphum. It is a developed district full of vitality.Watch the atmosphere of Kangkho districtthrough my video.
