Bac Giang: A province where you can experience authentic Northern Vietnamese local life with mr.hotsia
When talking about a province not far from Hanoi that still retains lively rural charm, Bac Giang Province is the answer I, mr.hotsia, want to recommend for everyone to know and experience firsthand. This province is located about 51 kilometers northeast of Hanoi, just past Bac Ninh Province. It is an area that blends mountainous terrain with the Red River, giving Bac Giang a diverse and fascinating landscape.
Once, I traveled here early in the morning around five o'clock, starting from My Dinh Bus Station by bus passing through the scenery of Bac Ninh Province before arriving in Bac Giang. This province has a population of about 1.5 million people and is home to 26 ethnic groups, making it a place with diverse cultures and unique community colors.
Travel and Atmosphere in Bac Giang Province
Upon arriving in Bac Giang, I chose to stroll around the town for two hours to absorb the local lifestyle and atmosphere. The provincial market impressed me greatly because it’s not just a place with stationary shops but also people selling goods using bicycles as their vehicles. Fresh sugarcane and unusual fruits like the bright red gac fruit inside, which I had never seen before, were sold here. The naturalness and simplicity of the market made me feel like I was stepping back in time and truly witnessing Northern Vietnamese life.
Additionally, while walking around, I caught the aroma of roasted duck similar to that in Hanoi. These roasted duck shops were bustling with Vietnamese customers, but I didn’t stop to try it that time. I saved it as a goal for my next visit.
Bac Giang Province and Its Economic and Cultural Connections
Bac Giang is not just an ordinary rural province but also an important economic zone. There is a large automobile manufacturing plant here. I, mr.hotsia, have heard that economic development in this area is rapidly growing and is likely to become a major industrial center in the future.
However, the province still preserves its natural beauty and local culture very well. The northern mountainous terrain and the low hills in the east give Bac Giang an atmosphere distinct from the big cities in Vietnam.
Exciting Local Bus Experience
Another thing that impressed me greatly was traveling from Bac Giang to Bac Ninh by local bus. The bus route runs parallel to the railway tracks and at some points even runs directly on the tracks. It felt like riding a train, but it was actually a local bus, which made me excited and anxious, wondering if a train would come. This is the charm of traveling in Vietnam that I really love.
