Hotels in Cao Bằng Province, Vietnam: Great value accommodations in the border town
When it comes to traveling to Cao Bằng Province of Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, must say that finding good accommodations here is not difficult. Although it is a small province located in the northwest region of Vietnam bordering China and other Vietnamese provinces, the atmosphere and hotel options here are impressively good.
Cao Bằng is a city distinguished by its plains surrounded by high mountains and a major river flowing through, giving the city beautiful natural views. When I arrived here, I chose to stay at Hua Viet Hotel in downtown Cao Bằng. The room rate was about 600 baht per night, or around 400,000 Vietnamese dong, which is very good value for the hotel's standards. The rooms have cool air conditioning, are clean, and the atmosphere is quiet—perfect for those wanting to rest after a full day of travel.
However, I would also recommend another hotel I stayed at and liked even more: Sunny Hotel Cao Bang, also located in the city center but a bit farther from the central market. The room rate is about 800 baht per night. The rooms here are excellent—very clean and spacious—with views from the upper floors offering a full panorama of Cao Bằng city. Although it requires a bit of a walk to reach the market and restaurants, if you enjoy peace and beautiful views, I think Sunny Hotel is more worthwhile and suits travelers like me better.
If you plan to admire the beauty ofBan Gioc Waterfallor Detian Falls, which is the world's fourth most beautiful waterfall after Niagara and Victoria Falls, I, mr.hotsia, recommend choosing accommodation right next to the waterfall to fully experience the morning atmosphere. I stayed at Ban Gioc Waterfall Hotel, the only hotel located adjacent to the falls. The price is about 1,800 baht per night. Around the hotel, you will find views of rice fields and the river marking the Vietnam-China border. The atmosphere is very pleasant and perfect for a relaxing stay.
If you want to save some budget, there are also Tai ethnic guesthouses about 500 meters from the waterfall. Room rates range from 400-500 baht per night. Although this is a cheaper option, the downside is a lot of dust and a long walk, which might be tiring if you plan multiple trips. So I chose to stay at the hotel next to the waterfall for maximum convenience.
How to choose accommodation suitable for traveling in Cao Bằng?
Speaking of downtown Cao Bằng, most hotels have moderate prices around 400 baht per night, which is quite affordable by Vietnamese standards. Most also offer basic amenities such as wifi, cool air conditioning, and hot water. But as I mentioned before, I recommend choosing a slightly better hotel because for under a thousand baht, you can enjoy comfort like a luxury hotel in a big city.
I suggest you try staying at a hotel near the morning market because this market is the heart of the lifestyle and food culture of the Cao Bằng people.Cao Bằng Morning MarketLocated by the main river flowing through the city, it is a clean indoor market with many food stalls, especially roasted duck sold in the morning. I like to buy hot roasted duck from a stall in the market and find a table to eat like a local. This atmosphere makes me feel like I am truly experiencing the real life of Cao Bằng people.
Breakfast and hotel surroundings atmosphere
If you stay at a hotel priced 800 baht or more, like my stay at Sunny Hotel, Vietnamese-style breakfast is served, which was another highlight for me. Breakfast includes stir-fried noodles, rice porridge, fresh orange juice, and seasonal fruits. The flavors are good and refreshing, perfect for recharging before heading out to explore the city or travel to Ban Gioc Waterfall.
Near Sunny Hotel, there are eateries serving rice porridge and boiled offal at night, with beer and liquor available. It’s suitable for those wanting a simple meal and to experience the local atmosphere. There is also a pizza place called “Pizza Chi” that I stopped by. The owner speaks good English and offers pizza, beef soup, and local sausages at reasonable prices. It’s a good option for tourists who don’t want to eat Vietnamese food all the time.
Why do I like staying in Cao Bằng like this?
My stay in Cao Bằng is not just about luxury or cheap prices. I choose accommodations that give me a feeling of truly being part of the community, seeing the lifestyle, and experiencing the diverse cultural atmosphere of this border town, as I have written about in my articles.Cao Bằng Province, VietnamHere, many Tai people speak Thai and have a lifestyle similar to ours, which makes traveling feel warm and not alienating at all.
Also, choosing a good hotel helps me have the energy to travel and taste Cao Bằng sausages or Vietnamese lạp sườn, which are local dishes I really like, and also to stop and enjoyCao Bằng local cuisineto the fullest, including roasted duck at market stalls and fresh, tasty street food in Cao Bằng city.
Summary of Cao Bằng accommodation experience from mr.hotsia
If you plan to travel to Cao Bằng Province in Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, recommend choosing accommodation based on your convenience and budget. But if you like comfort and beautiful views, I suggest staying at Sunny Hotel in the city center. If you want an atmosphere close to the waterfall and nature, choose Ban Gioc Waterfall Hotel. If you want to save money and experience local life, guesthouses near the waterfall are also an interesting option.
Whatever you choose, Cao Bằng will offer a memorable experience with beautiful views, delicious food, and a harmonious blend of cultures. Most importantly, accommodations here are worth the money and will make every night in Cao Bằng a satisfying experience for me, mr.hotsia, every time I visit.
