Traveling to Nha Trang, Khanh Hoa Province: A Coastal City You Must Experience
If you think of beautiful coastal cities in Vietnam, the nameNha Trangwill definitely be on your list. But a word of caution: don’t try to call it “Nha Trang” as pronounced like “Na Trang” because locals might get confused or lead you the wrong way. I,mr.hotsiahave experienced this myself, so I want to emphasize that this place is “Nha Trang.”
Nha Trang is an important city inKhánh Hòaprovince, located on the South China Sea coast. It has a beautiful long beach, perfect for those who love the sea and water activities like scuba diving. This place is considered one of the world’s top diving spots. Divers from all over the world come to experience the underwater beauty of Nha Trang.
History and City Atmosphere
Nha Trang has a deep historical foundation, once part of the Champa Kingdom, leaving ruins scattered around the city. The blend of ancient culture and modernity gives Nha Trang a unique charm. I strolled along the beach; the seaside road here is much quieter than our Pattaya. It’s not too crowded but still lively with restaurants and seaside activity areas where you can relax and enjoy the view fully.
Nha Trang was also the host city for the 57th Miss Universe pageant in 2008, further highlighting its importance on the world stage.
Getting to Nha Trang
If you plan to visit Nha Trang, travel is very convenient. There isCam Ranh Airportabout 35 kilometers from the city center, with buses and taxis available between the airport and the city.
Airlines flying in and out include Jetstar Pacific and Vietnam Airlines, with routes to Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, as well as Moscow and Incheon, covering a wide range.
Another option is traveling by train. Nha Trang train station is located north of the city near the main church. You can buy sleeper tickets from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City to get off here. I once took the train from Ho Chi Minh City, which took about 6-8 hours. The air-conditioned seat ticket was affordable at just 300 baht, and sleeper cabins ranged from 800 to 1000 baht.
For bus lovers, there are services from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang taking about 10-12 hours. However, I recommend avoidingTM brothers busdue to many negative reviews about cleanliness and service. Based on international reviews, if you want a hassle-free trip, choose other reputable bus companies.
Accommodation and Atmosphere in Thanh Hoa
If you have a chance to visit Thanh Hoa Province, part of Khanh Hoa, I recommend the hotel where I actually stayed:Khach San Chnh Ho Lakeview HotelThis hotel is located by a lake in the city center, within walking distance to the evening market. The rooms are clean, and the view from the upper floors offers beautiful city and lake scenery. It’s a great value accommodation that I truly recommend for travelers seeking local atmosphere and comfort.
Local Foods You Must Try
The food here is famous for fresh seafood. Nha Trang is known for bird’s nest and fish noodle soup with a clear broth. There are also unusual dishes like fresh sea urchin eaten with mustard, which I haven’t tried but found very interesting from travel guides.
For those who prefer simple food like me,mr.hotsiaI chose to eat street food like locals because it’s affordable and tastes great. In Thanh Hoa Province, I tried the signature dish:Stir-fried Eel NoodlesThis dish is famous here. Small eels are prepared in various ways, including stir-fried noodles and spicy curry. I took a motorbike taxi to a local recommended restaurant. The flavor was rich and unique.
The evening market in Thanh Hoa Province impressed me a lot. It’s full of fresh seafood like shrimp, clams, crabs, and fish. The vendors are cheerful, and walking around taking photos is enjoyable. You can also buy fresh oysters to makeOyster Cocktailand enjoy it at the hotel with a great atmosphere.
Beach and Seaside Atmosphere
If you love the sea, I recommend staying in Thanh Hoa Province for at least 2 nights to experience the beautiful long beach atSam Sonwhich is a key beach in the area. Although I visited during the rainy season, causing some seaside restaurants to be closed, I still enjoyed walking the seaside market and tasting fresh seafood fully.
Getting to the beach from the city is easy with regular bus services. You don’t need to take taxis, which can be expensive, making travel convenient and budget-friendly for tourists like us.
