Savor fresh seafood on Phu Quoc Island, Kiên Giang Province

When talking about Phu Quoc Island (Phu Quoc) in Kiên Giang Province (Kiên Giang), Vietnam, what impressed me, mr.hotsia, and what I highly recommend every traveler not to miss isFresh and affordable seafoodThis place is truly a paradise for seafood lovers.

After spending a full day riding a motorcycle capturing the island’s atmosphere (read about my motorcycle trip on Phu Quoc Island atMotorcycle Trip on Phu Quoc Island), I headed straight to the area called “Seafood Street” or Night Plaza, a seafood zone open from around 5:00 PM until just before midnight, featuring up to 20 seafood restaurants to choose from.

Each restaurant here focuses on a variety of menus, including barbecue, hotpot, or what Vietnamese call “Lao,” a seafood hotpot packed with fresh ingredients such as various types of fish, large shellfish, firm squid, and fresh shrimp caught from the sea the same day. I was also lucky to see local Vietnamese people squid fishing on the beach of Phu Quoc Island themselves. The squid caught weighed nearly a kilogram each. This is the kind of freshness you rarely find elsewhere.

Signature dishes recommended by mr.hotsia

The first dish I had to order was a large “Grouper” fish, costing about 200 Thai Baht each. The meat was sweet, firm, fresh, and very fragrant. Next was “Grilled Sea Urchin,” about 20 Baht each. The aroma from the grilling enhanced the flavor, making this dish an incredibly enjoyable snack.

The seafood hotpot or “Lao” here is a highlight I strongly recommend trying. It costs about 100,000 VND, roughly 150 Thai Baht per set. The hotpot contains squid, shrimp, fresh glass noodles, and various vegetables. The key is the freshness of all ingredients, making this hotpot delicious enough to give a thumbs up. It added warmth to my dinner on a cool sea breeze night.

Another dish I really liked was “Grilled Eggplant,” which is very different from the eggplants we have at home. It has a fragrant, smooth aroma with a slightly sweet taste. Eating it with seafood helps cut through the richness very well.

Seaside atmosphere and perfect drinks

While enjoying fresh seafood by the sea on Phu Quoc Island, I, mr.hotsia, recommend trying a bottle of Dalat wine, one of Vietnam’s quality wines. It’s moderately priced, not too expensive, but delicious and pairs perfectly with fresh seafood, helping to stimulate the appetite.

Smoothie zone and island souvenirs

Next to the seafood restaurant zone is a smoothie area, which I must say is extraordinary. Vietnamese people make these drinks rich and refreshing, especially the “Durian Smoothie” that I tried and loved. It has a sweet, creamy, and balanced flavor and is very refreshing to cool down after a seafood feast. After satisfying my appetite, I walked to the souvenir zone, which offers a wide selection, especially “Pearls.” Phu Quoc Island is well-known for high-quality pearls. Riding my motorcycle around the island, I saw pearl farms and pearl shops regularly. For souvenir lovers, this is truly a paradise.

Connecting with seafood sources and lifestyle in Kiên Giang

If you are interested in seafood nearby, Phu Quoc Island is also connected toRach Gia Citywhich is a port city and cultural center of Kiên Giang Province, not far from the island, offering plenty of fresh seafood options. Or if you enjoy a local night market atmosphere, I recommend stopping byHa Tien Seafoodwhich features shellfish and seafood dishes prepared in authentic Vietnamese style.
