Atmosphere of the ethnic minority performance in Da Nang, Vietnam
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Da Nang, Vietnam, and one of the most memorable experiences was watching the local ethnic minority performance, which truly serves as a window into the traditional lifestyle and culture of the people in this area.
During the day, I purchased a tour to visit a hill tribe village, which featured long houses similar to those I encountered in Dak Jung (ດັກຈຶງ), Laos — a village where hundreds of people live together under one roof. However, in Da Nang, Vietnam, which is not far away, I did not see such houses. The local village names, like Dak Lak, where “Dak” means water, reflect the settlement patterns of ethnic minorities living in the Central Highlands of Vietnam and Laos.
But what I really want to share is the nighttime activity. After visiting the village and not fully experiencing the ethnic minority lifestyle, I decided to buy an affordable tour ticket, about 300-400 baht, to watch an ethnic minority performance held about 10 kilometers from Da Nang city. The show started around 7:30 PM and ended at 9:30 PM.
The atmosphere that night was warm and lively. I noticed there were no foreign tourists, only local Vietnamese people enthusiastically attending. The performance took place around a large bonfire, evoking a sense of stepping back in time. Local rice wine called 'ruou u' was served for free, and there was plenty of grilled food available.
What I liked most was the friendliness of the Vietnamese people here. Both men and women joined in playing games and dancing around the fire joyfully. The atmosphere felt like a community party where everyone warmly welcomed tourists like me. I saw no formality; even strangers hugged, piggybacked, or kissed cheeks to express fun and friendship.
Taking photos that night was a bit challenging due to low light, but I managed to capture some atmosphere and short video clips. It was a unique experience that deepened my understanding of the ethnic minorities’ connection to nature and local culture.
The Charm of Da Nang and Its Connection to Local Culture
Da Nang itself has an equally fascinating charm. I, mr.hotsia, stayed at Hai Au hotel, a seaside hotel located on Da Nang Bay beach. Here, besides enjoying beautiful sea views, I saw fishermen pulling nets with small fish, squid, and cutlassfish, which they sold along the beach road. It was a captivating blend of culture and lifestyle.Recommended Seaside Hotels with Beautiful Views in Da NangWhat I wrote will help you plan a perfect stay here.
