Coastal Seine Fishing in Da Nang: A Seaside Way of Life Not to Be Missed

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to stay by the sea in Da Nang, Vietnam, a rapidly growing coastal tourist city. One highlight I was eager to experience firsthand was the coastal seine fishing activity, which is a traditional livelihood of the local fishermen here.

Da Nang is a city with long beaches and clear sea water. I stayed at a seaside hotel recommended in the article.Recommended Seaside Hotels with Beautiful Views in Da NangThis allowed me to closely observe the seine fishing activity both at dawn and in the evening before sunset. They usually drag the nets about three times a day.

Seine Fishing: The Process and Excitement

The coastal seine fishing activity of Da Nang fishermen is shallow water fishing. It starts by placing a large net curved in a semicircle in the sea, using small boats or basket boats to release the net. Then, two long ropes are slowly pulled back to shore, taking about 30-60 minutes depending on the distance the net was set.

I stood on the beach watching young fishermen gradually pull the ropes ashore little by little. When the net finally reached the shore, they pressed the net with their feet and hands to gather the fish before lifting it out of the water. What excited me the most was the variety of fish and sea creatures caught in the net, including squid, needlefish, and many small fish still swimming and wriggling inside.

Beachside Market: A Simple but Charming Way of Selling Fish

After the net is pulled ashore, the fish are immediately divided and sold. Locals and vendors eagerly come to choose fresh fish. The leftover fish are arranged on plates and sold along the beach road for about 40 baht per plate, attracting both tourists and locals until sold out.

I, mr.hotsia, tried grilled squid and fresh needlefish from those street trays. The fresh sweetness of the sea and the aroma of local herbs made me feel like I truly experienced the real life of Da Nang fishermen.

Da Nang and Tourism Connected to Local Lifestyles

Da Nang is not only about beautiful beaches and nice hotels but also has the charm of seaside villagers’ lifestyles that are beautifully preserved, as I saw in the seine fishing activity. For those interested in deep travel and truly experiencing local culture, relaxing by the sea in Da Nang and waking early to watch fishermen drag their nets is an experience not to be missed.

If you travel from other cities in Vietnam, such as Dalat, which I have previously written about,Dalat Bus StationandExploring Lam Dong Cityyou can conveniently connect your journey to Da Nang. Once there, don’t forget to spend a day experiencing the seaside fishermen’s life here.

Summary

Da Nang is not just a beautiful beach city with affordable hotels but also full of life from local fishermen using traditional coastal seine fishing methods. I, mr.hotsia, recommend everyone visiting Da Nang to wake early or come in the evening to watch this activity firsthand. Besides seeing real local life, you will also taste fresh seafood directly from the hands of villagers. Most importantly, it makes your trip meaningful and deeper in a way that is hard to find elsewhere.
