Travel Danang, the central city of Central Vietnam, with stories from mr.hotsia
When talking about Danang (Đà Nẵng) in Central Vietnam, many people might not be very familiar with the name yet, but for me, mr.hotsia, Danang is a city full of vitality and a perfect blend of modernity and traditional Vietnamese culture. This city is located on the coast in Central Vietnam, along the beautiful Han River. To the east, it borders Danang Bay with clean white sandy beaches, while to the north and west, it is surrounded by steep mountains that act as a natural wall protecting the city.
Danang is the fifth largest city in Vietnam, after Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Haiphong, and Can Tho. What makes Danang interesting to me is its role as the economic and cultural center of Central Vietnam. It is not only a business city but also the gateway to three UNESCO World Heritage cultural sites nearby: Hue, Hoi An, and My Son. This makes Danang an important connecting point on the cultural travel route that I have personally visited many times.
Traveling to Danang and the atmosphere from the field
The second time I, mr.hotsia, traveled to Danang, I started from Dalat. After taking an air-conditioned bus from Dalat, I arrived in Danang at 5 a.m. The atmosphere here was peaceful but full of the energy of people starting a new day. I chose to stay at a hotel in the city center near the Han River bridge, which is a great location for those who enjoy exploring the city on foot. The FC Hotel where I stayed was reasonably priced and had a nice atmosphere, close to Han Market, bustling with food stalls and local goods that are a must-visit for anyone wanting to experience the lifestyle of Danang locals.
For travelers coming from Thailand, I recommend the route through the Mukdahan border crossing, crossing into Savannakhet in Laos, then taking a bus to Hue, followed by a train or regular bus to Danang. This route is convenient and economical. Alternatively, for faster travel, Vietnam Airlines offers direct flights from Thailand to Danang as well.
Accommodation and beautiful seaside hotels in Danang
Danang offers a wide range of hotels, from budget hostels to luxurious five-star hotels. I have personal experience staying by the Danang Bay beach, where I witnessed the beauty of the beach and the traditional lifestyle of local fishermen. Although beachfront hotels are not numerous, there are small hotels no taller than 4-5 floors with limited rooms. The price for a sea view room is about 600 baht per night, which I consider very good value for waking up to a wide sea view and the sound of waves crashing ashore.
If you prefer convenience and want to stroll around the city in the evening, the city center area is also interesting, with many large hotels near the Han River bridge, which is beautifully lit at night. I have recommended beachfront hotels inRecommended articles on beautiful seaside hotels in DanangThis can be an idea to help plan your relaxing stay
Taste local food and the market atmosphere in Danang
The food in Danang has a unique charm that I, mr.hotsia, found different from Northern or Southern Vietnam. Local dishes here often emphasize the freshness of seafood and local spices. I enjoy walking around Han Market in the morning to sample street food that locals really eat.
My favorite local restaurant is a small, homely place with bold flavors. They serve grilled button squid, which I have filmed and shared inYouTubeGrilled button squid is one of the dishes I highly recommend trying yourself. There is also Vietnamese chicken biryani, tender and fragrant with spices, and Nem Thang, another famous dish. (For other food clips, seeVietnamese Chicken BiryaniandVietnamese Nem Thang)
Regarding the markets in Danang city, I enjoy the atmosphere of Han Market, which is a hub for fresh ingredients, local food, souvenirs, and daily necessities. This market is where I often have many meals because it truly reflects the lifestyle of the locals, similar to what I have shared aboutDalat Morning Marketwhich, despite being in a big city, retains a charm loved and preserved by the locals.
World Heritage routes and connections with Central Vietnam
Danang is not only a beautiful coastal city but also an important connecting point for travelers wanting to experience the cultural World Heritage sites of Central Vietnam, such as Hue, an ancient city full of history and ancient architecture; Hoi An, charming with its peaceful and enchanting old town; and My Son, the ruins of an ancient city rich in religious and cultural stories. If you are interested in these stories, mr.hotsia recommends planning your trip carefully to make the most of your time.
Regarding travel between these cities, I have written about traveling from Hue to Hoi An and Danang in other articles, which can help you plan your trip more easily. Additionally, traveling from Dalat is another interesting option for those who enjoy visiting multiple cities in Central Vietnam. (See more details atDalat Bus Station)
