Sa Dec Transport: A Riverside Lifestyle Hub in Sa Dec City

Sa Dec is a town I stopped by while traveling from Vĩnh Long Province heading to Cao Lanh City, then continuing to Long Xuyên and Châu Đốc—key connection points in the southern Mekong Delta.

Sa Dec is not just an ordinary transit town but an economic, financial, educational, and cultural center of Đồng Tháp Province. It has a population of about 100,000. Life here is still closely tied to the rivers and canals flowing through the town. I remember walking along the riverside road, seeing rice cargo boats continuously passing by, a daily scene that clearly reflects the area's abundance.

The atmosphere here is warm and homely. I met locals weaving reed mats by the roadside. These mats are dyed in bright colors, giving a sense of craftsmanship passed down through generations. There is also an old Christian church not far from the main canal, and along the main road crossing the town stands a monument of Ho Chi Minh, towering as a symbol of the era and the pride of Sa Dec residents.

Travel and Transportation in Sa Dec

I traveled by bus from Vĩnh Long to Sa Dec. Traveling within Đồng Tháp Province is quite convenient. The roads are simple but full of stories of riverside life. Rice cargo boats bustle across the canals. At times, I saw locals burning bricks by the riverbank, a scene blending traditional ways with urban changes.

Markets and Local Food in Sa Dec

The markets in Sa Dec are another charm that impressed me greatly. Walking through the morning market, I smelled fresh herbs and local ingredients. Fresh vegetables and fruits lined the stalls, many varieties unique to the Mekong Delta region. I tried local dishes such as Vietnamese Chicken Biryani with its mild flavors and grilled button squid, fragrant from the street grill. The fresh, sweet taste of the squid grilled just right made it a memorable meal I highly recommend.

When I visited in January 2012, the vast green rice fields stretched as far as the eye could see. The clear sky and cool breeze created an atmosphere that made me feel like I had stepped into a truly peaceful and simple world.
