Quảng Bình Province

Quảng Bình, a small coastal town full of wonders in Vietnam
When talking about northern central Vietnam, Quảng Bình Province is one of the destinations I, mr.hotsia, want to invite everyone to experience at least once. This province stands out as the narrowest land area in Vietnam and is also the easiest province to travel to from Thailand, being only 145 kilometers away from Nakhon Phanom Province.
The capital of Quảng Bình is Đồng Hới, a small coastal city with a unique charm. I arrived here eager to experience the local lifestyle and the nature that remains very pure, especially its proximity to Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, only 50 kilometers north of Đồng Hới. This is a World Heritage site that nature and adventure travelers worldwide dream of visiting.
Morning and Evening Markets in Đồng Hới – The Charm of Coastal Life
Early morning in Đồng Hới, I didn’t miss a chance to visit the morning market.Đồng Hới Morning Marketwhich is incredibly lively. Coastal fishing boats return with fresh fish, shrimp, shellfish, crabs, and other freshly caught seafood. Vendors rush to reserve and buy their goods in a bustling scene. This market is full of colors and the authentic coastal life atmosphere that I believe food lovers and those who enjoy observing local lifestyles will surely appreciate.
In the evening, I also visited the evening market.Đồng Hới Evening Marketwhich, although less busy than in the morning, still retains its vibrancy. People come to buy fresh fish to cook at home. I like the market’s atmosphere here because it shows the simplicity and warmth of the locals who firmly hold on to their traditional way of life.
Must-Try Local Delicious Foods
When it comes to food in Đồng Hới, I, mr.hotsia, must say there are many great places I stopped by and remember. Many stalls sell shredded chicken sticky rice and spicy chicken sticky rice, with bold and balanced flavors that suit Thai tastes like mine. There is also a small curry rice shop located at a traffic light intersection, which I consider one of my favorites because of its authentic atmosphere and lively flavors.
For those who enjoy international cuisine, Đồng Hới also offers several Western-style restaurants, especially riverside ones with great ambiance, perfect for relaxing and enjoying locally brewed draft beer. I recommend trying a glass of draft beer; its fresh taste is truly unique.
Phong Nha Cave – A World Heritage Site You Must Experience Yourself
When talking about the main tourist attraction in Quảng Bình Province, it has to bePhong Nha Cavein Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, which was registered as a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 2003. This park covers an area of 857.54 square kilometers and is filled with limestone caves and one of the largest underground river systems in the world.
I remember the day I took a boat into Phong Nha Cave; it felt like entering an underworld filled with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. The park’s recognition as an important geological and biological evolutionary site made me feel I was experiencing the grandeur of nature at a rare level.
Sea Fish Landing Pier and Riverside Life in Đồng Hới
Another experience I, mr.hotsia, recommend for visitors to Đồng Hới is to wake up early and seethe Sea Fish Landing Pierwhere deep-sea fishing boats unload various deep-sea fish before dawn. It’s a scene full of life and the hustle of hardworking people. Along the riverbank, locals build small huts and use large lift nets to fish, showcasing a traditional lifestyle that is truly admirable.
Relaxing Stay at Kebang Hotel by the Đồng Hới River
The accommodation I chose when visiting Đồng Hới was Kebang Hotel, located at 28 Ho Xuan Huong, Dong My, Dong Hoi. This hotel is riverside with a peaceful atmosphere. From the balcony, you can see the park and beautiful river views. I stayed here for 2 nights and was impressed by the comfort and warm service from the hotel owners, especially their very lovely daughter.
For those looking for other accommodation options in Đồng Hới, I recommend choosing hotels along the river as there are many interesting ones, and most hotel owners can communicate in English to some extent, making it convenient for international travelers like us.Read more details about accommodations here
