Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam — A vibrant ancient city

When mr.hotsia had the opportunity to experienceBac Ninhor Bắc Ninh in northern Vietnam, my first impression was a warm rural atmosphere mixed with the charm of traditional culture that remains strong. Having traveled to several northern provinces of Vietnam such asLang Son Provincewhich features mountainous terrain and the Ky Cung River flowing through the city, visiting Bac Ninh felt distinctly different because it is a flat area along the Red River Delta, filled with rice fields and a simple yet deeply historical and cultural rural lifestyle.

Bac Ninh is not just an ordinary city but a cultural and traditional music center, one of the most prominent in Vietnam, especially known for "Quan họ" folk music, which is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. I had the chance to visit a folk music village that still preserves traditional musical performances and harmonious singing perfectly. Besides listening to music, the village atmosphere was full of friendly locals, along with tasting local dishes that are flavorful and experiencing a slow-paced lifestyle.

Travel and Access to Bac Ninh Province

For mr.hotsia, traveling to Bac Ninh is very convenient from Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, as the distance is short and there are many bus routes available. Anyone who has passed throughVinh Long Bus Stationwhich is a southern transport hub in Vietnam, will understand that the transport system here is well developed to fully support travelers, including buses, taxis, and motorbike taxis. mr.hotsia recommends trying local buses to enjoy the scenery along the way filled with rice fields and small villages that look like they came from a painting.

Local Market Experience and Bac Ninh's Traditional Food

One of my favorite spots in Bac Ninh is the morning market. The market is not large but full of colors and a variety of fresh food, cooked dishes, and daily necessities that truly reflect the rural way of life. I tried authentic Vietnamese dishes such asGrilled Button Squidwhich has a fragrant aroma from local herbs and a mild flavor. There isa video of eating grilled button squidthat made me decide to try it immediately. I also tasted Vietnamese chicken biryani, fragrant with spices, which I have recommended in a videoVietnamese Chicken Biryaniwith a flavor unlike anywhere else in ASEAN.

The market atmosphere here is lively from early morning, with vendors and locals selling agricultural products such as fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, and freshly made food. I walked around and chatted with friendly locals, feeling like stepping back in time to an era where life was simple but more charming than expected.

Temples and Sacred Places

Although Bac Ninh does not have Buddhist temples as prominent as those in Dalat city, which mr.hotsia has visited, such asTruc Lam Templethere are old temples and pagodas scattered throughout communities here, reflecting the deep connection of people with religion and beliefs. Visiting local temples helped me understand the locals' perspectives better and see ancient Vietnamese architecture that remains beautiful and peaceful.

mr.hotsia's Personal Impressions of Bac Ninh Province

What impressed me most about visiting Bac Ninh was the simplicity yet vibrancy of this city. Whether it was the folk music echoing in small villages or the smiles of people I met at the morning market along with delicious and affordable local food, I felt like escaping the hustle of big cities to find a unique peaceful charm of northern Vietnam.

For travelers who want to experience traditional culture and rural lifestyle that still retains authentic Vietnamese character, I, mr.hotsia, recommend planning a visit toBac Ninh Provinceat least once. I guarantee you will have a different and memorable experience comparable to any major city in Vietnam.
