Backpack all Vietnam - Backpacking Every Province in Vietnam with mr.hotsia
Vietnam... a country where I, mr.hotsia, have backpacked through every province by myself. This place is not only rich in long history and beautiful natural scenery but also full of local lifestyles, bustling markets, street food available on every corner, and small stories waiting for us to explore with our feet and hearts.
I started my journey from north to south, beginning at Lang Son Province where I stayed in Lang Son city on May 10, 2015. The Hoang Son Hotel was affordable at about 600 baht per night, just a short walk from the central market. Here, you can experience the atmosphere of a small border town near China, with hills covering over 80% of the province. The height of Mount Meo San is 1,541 meters. The summer weather is hot and humid, but the rainy season brings freshness similar to home.Lang Son Province, VietnamIt is the gateway to China and a great starting point for backpacking in northern Vietnam.
Then, I traveled down to Da Lat city in Lam Dong Province. This city has a Zen Buddhist temple that impressed me greatly: Truc Lam Temple, located on Phoenix Mountain, just 5 kilometers north of the city center. To visit this temple, I chose to take the cable car which offers views of Tuyen Lam Lake and the pine forest surrounding the temple beautifully. The temple was built between 1993-1994 and houses over 100 monks and nuns practicing meditation. It is peaceful and mystical, perfect for those wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.Buddhist Temple in Da LatThis is a place I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend you experience.
In the southern route, I stopped at Vinh Long city, an important hub of the Mekong Delta. The Vinh Long bus station connects buses to nearby provinces and neighboring countries. I used this station to travel to Sa Dec and then to Chau Doc city in An Giang Province before crossing into Cambodia. Traveling in southern Vietnam is not as difficult as it seems but be careful with communication with taxi drivers, as I was almost taken to Saigon due to similar street names.Vinh Long Bus StationIt is an essential spot not to be missed by backpackers.
Another favorite destination of mine is Nha Trang, a coastal city famous for its beautiful, clean beaches and almost year-round suitable temperatures for tourism. Here you will find Diamond Bay and an amusement park, as well as the Vinpearl Cable Car crossing to Hon Tre Island, which offers resorts and private beaches. I enjoy the peaceful and private atmosphere of Nha Trang beach at night, unlike the busy daytime. Although I did not swim, walking along the beach and enjoying the view was a wonderful experience.Nha Trang Sea Beachis one of the places I, mr.hotsia, believe is worth revisiting.
Along the way in Vietnam, I found that choosing to stay in small, warm, and friendly guesthouses helps us experience the real local lifestyle. For example, in Viet Tri city, Phu Tho Province, I stayed at Nha Nghi A9 guesthouse. It was inexpensive and had internet access, which, although not very fast, was enough for planning the next trip. Walking in the morning market and finding street food here made me feel truly immersed with Vietnamese people.Recommended Hotel in Viet Tri Cityis another example of accommodation I invite you to try.
Vietnamese cuisine cannot be left unmentioned. I once tried grilled button squid that was so delicious I had to recommend it on my YouTube channel, as well as Vietnamese chicken biryani with fragrant spices and a rich taste that I enjoyed thoroughly. Throughout backpacking in Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, learned that the best travel is when we open our hearts to everything around us: smiling people, lively markets, and diverse food. Using local buses, motorcycles, or even walking allows us to truly see the details of each city and province.

Also, don't forget to prepare a convenient and reliable internet SIM card for Vietnam to make your trip smoother.Vietnam 3G Internet SIMis another essential item I, mr.hotsia, used throughout the trip.
Finally, backpacking in Vietnam is not as difficult as you think. Just be brave to experience it firsthand, travel with an open heart, and be ready to learn from every step you take.
