Ban Gioc–Detian Falls Ban Sop Detian Waterfall Vietnam-China Border

When it comes to a destination that makes me feel like I’m clearly crossing a natural border between two countries, Ban Gioc–Detian Falls, or Ban Sop Detian Waterfall, is an unforgettable answer. Located on the border between Vietnam and China, this waterfall is one of the most beautiful and grand in Southeast Asia. It divides the border between Lang Son Province of Vietnam and Guangxi Province of China.

I, mr.hotsia, recently traveled to Lang Son Province, which itself has a charming allure. Whether it’s Lang Son city where I stayed in the center, walking to the market to find simple local food, or strolling along the Ky Cung River, you get a truly authentic local atmosphere.Lang Son Province, VietnamA great starting point for the journey to the border at Detian Waterfall

Travel Experience to Ban Gioc–Detian Falls

The route from Lang Son city to the waterfall is not easy. I spent nearly half a day on a local winding bus. But the scenery along the way was stunning. I saw complex mountain views and lush green rice fields stretching as far as the eye can see. The atmosphere of this region reminded me of the simple lifestyle of local villagers who still firmly preserve their traditions.

Upon arriving at Detian Waterfall, Ban Sop, I must say the first sight of the waterfall crashing down powerfully amazed me. The waterfall divides into two sides belonging to two countries. The water plunging from cliffs dozens of meters high cools the surrounding air and creates a constant mist. This is the natural wonder I highly recommend everyone to see with their own eyes.

Strolling Along the River and Experiencing Local Life

After admiring the waterfall’s beauty, I, mr.hotsia, walked along the river flowing from the waterfall. Here, locals use the river as a food source and also raft on bamboo rafts to enjoy the natural scenery. I had conversations with local villagers who live simply and have a deep connection with the water and mountains.

Not far from the waterfall is a small market selling local products including fresh fruits and vegetables, local food, and souvenirs. I tried Vietnamese dishes here with authentic, home-style flavors that are hard to find in big cities. Walking through this market made me feel like I truly experienced the real lifestyle of Lang Son people.

Connecting Travel with Northern Vietnam and China

If you want to continue traveling from here, Lang Son Province where I stayed is a great choice. Besides affordable accommodations and convenient travel, there are other interesting places such asMaosan Mountainand several natural caves worth exploring.

For those interested in peaceful temples, I recommend visitingBuddhist Temple in Da Lat Citywhich is a beautiful Zen Buddhist temple with a tranquil atmosphere, perfect for relaxing your mind after a tiring trip.

How to Prepare for This Trip

Visiting Ban Gioc–Detian Falls requires preparation for frequently changing weather, especially during the rainy season when the waterfall has more and stronger water flow. Travel with shoes suitable for walking on wet and slippery surfaces, and don’t forget to prepare an internet SIM card for convenient communication. I have written a recommendation forVietnam 3G Internet SIMwhich helped me stay connected online without interruption.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

Ban Gioc–Detian Falls is not just an ordinary waterfall; it is a gateway to the wonders of nature blending harmoniously with the border culture of two countries. Here, I witnessed a unique waterfall beauty, experienced local lifestyles, and learned that the “border” does not truly separate us but deeply connects the natural and cultural beauty.

For those who love nature and cultural travel, I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend experiencing this place at least once. I guarantee you will fall in love with it just like I did.
