Ban Sop Waterfall and Detian Waterfall, the ultimate natural wonders on the Vietnam-China border
I, Mr.Hotsia, recently had the chance to visit and experience the beauty of Ban Gioc Waterfall and Detian Waterfall, located on the border between Vietnam and China in Lang Son Province, Vietnam. These waterfalls are among the largest and most beautiful in Southeast Asia and are a must-visit attraction when you come to northern Vietnam.
During my trip to Lang Son Province, I stayed in the city center at Hoang Son Hotel, which is conveniently located. It’s very easy to walk to the market and find food. For those interested in more details about this province, you can read my previous article.Lang Son Province, Vietnamthat I wrote earlier.
First Impressions of Ban Sop Waterfall
Ban Sop Waterfall is located by the Mekong River near the China-Vietnam border. When I arrived, the atmosphere was filled with the freshness of nature. The waterfall is impressively tall and wide, with water cascading down steep limestone cliffs. The spray creates a fine mist that feels cool and refreshing. Reaching the waterfall isn’t easy; you have to drive through mountainous roads and small villages that still preserve the traditional lifestyle of northern Vietnamese people.
Along the path to the waterfall, I saw locals selling native products such as fresh vegetables, fruits, and local foods that are easy to find, like sticky rice with grilled pork and grilled squid. If you enjoy authentic Vietnamese cuisine, you should definitely try these. They are delicious and very affordable.
Detian Waterfall: Another Magnificent Cross-Border Wonder
From Ban Sop Waterfall, I took a car across to the Chinese side at Detian Waterfall, which is equally grand and beautiful. Detian Waterfall is wider and taller, with water flowing down from large cliffs surrounded by lush green forests. Wooden walkways and bridges allow visitors to get close to nature and enjoy the views fully.
The atmosphere there was quite lively, with Chinese tourists and foreigners coming to admire the waterfall’s beauty. I preferred to walk slowly, listening to the sound of flowing water and smelling the fresh forest air that filled every breath, which made me feel relaxed and truly recharged.
Local Lifestyle and Food Around the Waterfalls
For a Mr.Hotsia-style trip, I didn’t miss exploring the lifestyle of the villagers around the waterfalls. Most locals still live simply, mainly farming rice and agriculture. Some families run small shops selling handmade souvenirs and local food.
I tried grilled squid at a small roadside stall. The fresh squid was grilled with a fragrant charcoal aroma, tender but not too soft, and had a perfectly balanced rich flavor. It’s a local dish that impressed me a lot. There’s also traditional Vietnamese chicken biryani, which I mentioned in my previous videos and articles. It’s easy to find here and very affordable.

Summary and Travel Tips
For traveling to Ban Sop and Detian Waterfalls, I, Mr.Hotsia, recommend preparing your body as the route is mountainous and can be slippery during the rainy season. Bring hiking shoes and appropriate clothing. Also, carry water and snacks because food stalls may be limited in some areas.
Don’t forget to admire and photograph the beautiful views around the waterfalls.
