Cao Bằng Province (Cao Bằng), Vietnam: A borderland you must experience yourself

When it comes to northern Vietnam, many people think of Hanoi, Da Lat, or other famous tourist cities. But for me, mr.hotsia, Cao Bằng ProvinceCao Bằngbecame a destination that made me feel the raw, untouched side of Vietnam. This province is located in the far north of the country, bordering China. It is a mountainous area filled with beautiful nature that challenges travelers like me to explore.

Traveling to Cao Bằng is not easy, but once you arrive, I guarantee the beauty and charm of this city will make you forget all your fatigue. I, mr.hotsia, arrived in Cao Bằng at the end of the rainy season. The weather was cool and comfortable, not as hot and stuffy as in Lang Son, a nearby province I have visited (read details atLang Son Province, Vietnam)

Local Life and Markets in Cao Bằng

One of the impressions I got from Cao Bằng was experiencing the local lifestyle. The morning market in this small town is full of colors and lively sounds from vendors selling local products, whether fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, or even local dishes with flavors as good as anywhere in Vietnam.

I, mr.hotsia, tried tasting everything from fragrant grilled sticky rice with pork to grilled button squid that I had seen in Vietnamese food clips (I recommend watching my grilled button squid video onYouTube). These foods are not only delicious but also clearly reflect the eating culture and lifestyle of the people here.

Nature and Must-Visit Attractions

Cao Bằng is famous for its stunning nature, especially Ban Gioc Waterfall, considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam and located on the border with China. I, mr.hotsia, spent the whole day admiring the beauty of this waterfall. The clear and powerful water cascades magnificently amidst lush green mountains. It is an unforgettable sight.

Besides the waterfall, Cao Bằng also has caves and mountains suitable for adventure, such as Nhi Thanh Cave and To Thi Mountain, where I experienced a similar atmosphere to Lang Son Province (read more atLang Son Province, Vietnam). The mountains in Cao Bằng are tall and offer beautiful views, perfect for hiking or climbing enthusiasts.

Travel Experience and Accommodation in Cao Bằng

Traveling to Cao Bằng is fairly convenient, though it is not a major tourist city. I chose to travel from Hanoi by local bus, which took about 7-8 hours. The buses here differ from those in big cities but are comfortable and affordable.

For accommodation, I, mr.hotsia, recommend choosing small hotels in downtown Cao Bằng that offer a warm atmosphere and friendly service. I stayed at a guesthouse where the owner was very kind and the price was reasonable. They provided hot water and 3G internet, which helped me stay connected with the outside world (if interested in 3G internet SIM cards in Vietnam, see details atVietnam 3G Internet SIM)

Connecting the Experience with Northern Vietnam Overall

I, mr.hotsia, suggest you also visit nearby Lang Son Province, which I described in a previous article, as both provinces share similar geography and culture. However, Cao Bằng is quieter and retains a more intense natural charm. Additionally, if you want to enrich your cultural and religious experience, try visiting the Buddhist temples in Da Lat city (read about my experience atBuddhist Temples in Da Lat) to experience the tranquility and beauty of Mahayana Buddhist art.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

For me, Cao Bằng Province is not just a destination but a new experience that made me see Vietnam from a different perspective. From the bustling big cities to the peaceful nature and local lifestyle that still holds its original charm. If you love traveling and discovering the true essence of places and cultures, I invite you to experience Cao Bằng yourself. You will understand that northern Vietnam's beauty is more than you think.
