Cao Bang Province, Vietnam: Extraordinary Beauty in the Northern Border
Hello, I am mr.hotsia. Today, I want to share my travel story to Cao Bang Province, located in northern Vietnam. This province may not be as famous as other big cities, but for those who love nature, local lifestyles, and adventure, Cao Bang is the answer I highly recommend you experience for yourself.
The Charm of Nature and Hill Tribe Life
I arrived in Cao Bang during a pleasantly cool period, unlike the intense heat of big cities. Along the drive, I saw stunningly scattered steep limestone mountains interspersed with hill tribe villages that still firmly preserve their traditional culture and way of life. It felt like stepping back in time to an era when nature still owned the land. I visited small villages inhabited by the Tay and Nung hill tribes, tasted Vietnamese-style chicken biryani fragrant with spices and fresh herbs, chatted with locals about their daily lives, and witnessed traditional handwoven fabric techniques passed down from grandparents.
Ban Gioc Waterfall – The Marvel of Water
One highlight I don’t want you to miss when visiting Cao Bang is Ban Gioc Waterfall, the tallest and widest waterfall in Vietnam, located right on the border with China. The waterfall cascades down steep limestone cliffs, and sunlight hitting the mist creates beautiful rainbows I have never seen anywhere else. The atmosphere around the waterfall is peaceful and refreshing. I spent time enjoying the view and taking photos until I lost track of time. Although the journey to the waterfall involves driving through winding mountain roads, the beauty and experience make every minute worthwhile.
Local Markets and Must-Try Regional Foods
My trip wouldn’t be complete without visiting Cao Bang’s local morning market, full of colorful fresh vegetables, fruits, and freshly made local dishes. I tried Vietnamese grilled button squid with a balanced spicy and sweet flavor that was so delicious I had to order another plate. There was also Vietnamese chicken biryani fragrant with spices, served with a spicy dipping sauce. This is a dish I highly recommend you try when visiting Cao Bang.
Travel and Accommodation
For traveling to Cao Bang, I chose to take a bus from Lang Son city, which is not too far (Lang Son Province, Vietnam). The trip was comfortable and offered beautiful scenic views along the way. Upon arrival in Cao Bang, I stayed at a small guesthouse with friendly owners who provided excellent information, making my trip easier and more enjoyable.
If anyone is interested in experiencing northern Vietnamese Buddhist temples, I recommend visitingBuddhist Temples in Da Lat City, a peaceful and beautiful temple perfect for those seeking spiritual rest during their journey.
