Chinatown Ho Chi Minh

When talking about Ho Chi Minh City, many people often think of the hustle and bustle of a big city filled with tall buildings and busy traffic. But for me, Mr.Hotsia, Chinatown in Ho Chi Minh, also known as "Saigon Chinatown," is a charming corner with a perfect blend of diverse cultures that you must stop by to stroll around.

I arrived at Chinatown in the evening. It is not far from the city center. Traveling is convenient by taxi or motorbike taxis that are widely available. However, I recommend preparing a Vietnamese 3G internet SIM card to help with maps and communication.Vietnamese 3G Internet SIM cardwhich I have used many times to save my trips.

The atmosphere in Ho Chi Minh Chinatown is lively with fresh markets and shops brightly lit all night. The narrow main street is lined with Chinese-Vietnamese restaurants filled with the scent of spices and herbs in the air. The aroma of roasted duck, red pork, and stewed beef noodles invites you to follow your curiosity and taste.

I, Mr.Hotsia, love walking around this Chinatown market the most because besides seeing the local way of life that still firmly preserves ancient Chinese traditions, I also get to taste local dishes unique to Ho Chi Minh, such as the spicy grilled button squid that I couldn’t resist after watching a clip.Vietnamese Grilled Button Squidor the Vietnamese-style chicken biryani with a mild and balanced flavorVietnamese Chicken Biryaniwhich is another highlight I highly recommend trying.

In the morning, the fresh market in Chinatown is full of various fresh goods, from seasonal fruits and vegetables to carefully selected fish, shrimp, and meats. I often stop by the morning market to observe local life and buy local fruits before continuing to other tourist spots in Ho Chi Minh City.

The charm of Ho Chi Minh Chinatown is not only in its food and markets but also in the old Chinese temples and shrines tucked away in small alleys, allowing me to experience tranquility in an atmosphere different from the city's hustle. These temples are full of authentic Chinese art and architecture, well maintained, serving as a cultural bridge between Chinese and Vietnamese heritage in the city.

For photography enthusiasts, this Chinatown is perfect because every angle tells a story—from street signs written in Chinese, ancient characters on buildings, to the colorful decorative lights at night. If you want a different perspective, I, Mr.Hotsia, recommend walking along Trần Hưng Đạo Street, the main street of Chinatown, filled with Chinese-style shops and local food, maintaining the raw and genuine atmosphere of community life here.

Additionally, Ho Chi Minh Chinatown is a great starting point for traveling to other provinces in southern Vietnam, such as Lạng Sơn Province, which I have visited and written about inLạng Sơn Province, Vietnamwhich features nature and culture that are different yet still impressively retain the true Vietnamese essence.

If you have time and want a deeper experience of local life, I recommend staying in nearby neighborhoods. There are guest houses and small hotels available at reasonable prices. Though not luxurious or modern, they offer a homely atmosphere and are close to markets and local restaurants, which I believe are the heart of exploring Chinatown.

Finally, before we part, if you want to see the real atmosphere of Ho Chi Minh Chinatown, I, Mr.Hotsia, recommend the video I recorded inChinatown Ho Chi Minhwhich will help you visualize and better understand the reality of this place.

Ho Chi Minh Chinatown is not just a neighborhood in a big city; it is a vibrant area full of life, culture, and warmth from people who proudly preserve their roots. For those who love walking through markets, tasting street food, and experiencing local life, I, Mr.Hotsia, believe you will fall in love with this place as much as I have.
