Experience the authentic coconut lifestyle at Coconut House in Ben Tre Province, Vietnam

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Ben Tre Province, located in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam, known as the “City of Coconuts.” Here, not only do lush coconut trees line both sides of the river, but there is also a coconut processing factory open to tourists like me to experience the full process of making coconut products at Coconut House, commonly called the “Coconut Processing Factory.”

I booked the Coconut House tour through accommodation in Ben Tre city for only 10 USD. It started around 9 AM and ended after lunch, making it a half-day trip that was truly worth more than the price.

Starting at the brick kiln and coconut husking factory

My journey began with a visit to a brick kiln using local natural materials, followed by a stop at the coconut husking factory, which seemed to be the highlight of the trip. I witnessed the process of husking fresh coconuts by local villagers’ hands. Their method was very fast and safe, unlike anything I had seen elsewhere.

The atmosphere around the factory was filled with the fresh scent of coconuts and the moisture from the nearby flowing river. Although it was hot in southern Vietnam, the cool breeze from the river made me feel much more comfortable.

Coconut souvenir shop and traditional music

After touring the factory, I stopped by a souvenir shop selling coconut-made items such as bags, jewelry, and decorations crafted meticulously and uniquely from coconut shells. Additionally, there was a performance of traditional Vietnamese music, blending culture and craftsmanship that conveyed the warmth of the local community.

I tasted honey from bees raised in the coconut garden. The flavor was naturally sweet and fragrant, unlike typical market honey. They offered free samples and recommended buying some for its many health benefits.

Coconut sweets house – The art of traditional candy making

A highlight that impressed me greatly was visiting a coconut sweets house. I saw every step from extracting coconut water, stirring it until thick, to cutting and wrapping the sweets using thin coconut shells. The outermost layer was edible thin paper. The taste was sweet, creamy, and fragrant with fresh coconut aroma, making me almost want to buy some as a souvenir.

Although this place is not a famous factory advertised widely, the sincerity and taste I experienced were truly worthwhile. I also learned about the villagers’ way of life deeply connected to coconuts.

Rowboat ride through small canals and lunch in the forest

After seeing the candy making, I took a rowboat ride along small canals through dense, moist coconut forests. The sound of birds and fresh natural scents accompanied the journey, creating an atmosphere like stepping into a painting of authentic Vietnamese countryside.

For lunch, I ate local dishes at a restaurant located in the forest near the river. The food was fresh and flavorful, including fried freshwater fish and fresh local vegetables, along with cold coconut water that helped cool down the heat.
