Dalac, the land of mist and beautiful nature in Vietnam by mr.hotsia

I, mr.hotsia, recently had the chance to visit Dak Lak city in Vietnam, a city that perfectly blends nature and culture. This trip opened new experiences for me to feel the peace and charm of Vietnam from a different perspective that many may not be familiar with.

Journey to Dak Lak

Dak Lak is located in Lam Dong Province, in the upper central region of Vietnam. Getting here is not difficult. I chose to travel by bus from nearby cities with major bus stations such as Vinh Long bus station, which I have used before (read more atVinh Long bus station). The buses here are convenient with many trips per day, allowing me to plan my travel flexibly.

Atmosphere and Nature of Dak Lak

As soon as I arrived in Dak Lak, the cool and comfortable weather, different from southern Vietnam like Nha Trang or Ho Chi Minh City, refreshed me. Dak Lak is situated at a high elevation with complex mountains and beautiful lakes in its landscape. Tuyen Lam Lake near Truc Lam Temple is one of the spots that impressed me greatly (read about my visit to this temple atBuddhist Temples in Dalat). To get to the temple, I took a cable car to enjoy the mountain and lake views from above. It is a scene I still vividly remember.

Learning Local Life and Culture

Dak Lak is not only about nature. What impressed me was the lifestyle of the locals, blending traditional culture with modernity. The morning market in Dak Lak city is another must-visit place. It resembles typical morning markets in Vietnam but offers a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, and local foods. I tried local dishes with rich flavors different from southern Vietnamese cuisine I had before. The breakfast that impressed me was Vietnamese chicken biryani with intense flavor (watch my Vietnamese chicken biryani clip atClick here)

Markets and Coffee — The Heart of Dak Lak

In Dak Lak, there are many coffee shops I stopped by to try. Vietnamese coffee, especially in Dak Lak, has a unique character with a fragrant aroma and strong taste. I enjoyed sipping coffee while watching people pass by in a relaxed atmosphere. Trying coffee in small shops with a homely vibe was another experience that made me feel more relaxed (if interested in coffee shops in other parts of Vietnam, I have written aboutCoffee Shops in Phan Rang)

Experience Buddhist Temples and Nature on Phoenix Mountain

Truc Lam Temple is a Zen Buddhist temple I intentionally visited because I wanted to see a peaceful temple with beautiful views. It is located on Phoenix Mountain, surrounded by pine forests and Tuyen Lam Lake. The trip to the temple was convenient by cable car, and the image of the red-tiled pagoda roof contrasting with the dark green pine forest is a memory I cherish. This temple is not only a place of practice for over 100 monks and nuns but also a popular spot for tourists both domestic and international to admire beauty and learn culture.Read more about Buddhist temples in Dalat

Local Food in Dak Lak — Delicious Must-Try

Besides coffee, Dak Lak's food is diverse and flavorful. I tried grilled button squid at a roadside stall, a dish I had never tasted before. The flavor was rich, with sweetness from the squid and a slight spiciness that made it addictive (watch the grilled button squid clip atClick here). Eating street food in Vietnam is one of the charms I love because it lets me experience authentic flavors and genuine local atmosphere.

Connect Your Travel Experience with Nearby Provinces

If you enjoy mountain trips and cool weather like this, I recommend visiting Lang Son Province, which is not far away (read about my experience atLang Son Province, Vietnam). Both provinces have mountainous terrain and indigenous tribal lifestyles. Traveling between them is convenient, and you will experience the diverse sides of Vietnam distinctly.

Summary of Impressions from Dak Lak by mr.hotsia

Dak Lak is a city I believe travelers who love nature and culture will fall in love with. With its cool climate, beautiful mountain and lake views, and unique food and coffee, traveling to Dak Lak recharged me and opened new, unique experiences. If you are looking for a destination in Vietnam that is peaceful and full of natural charm, Dak Lak is your answer.
