Dak Nong, Vietnam: A New City That mr.hotsia Wants to Share With You

Many may not be familiar with the nameDak Nonga small province in the upper central region of Vietnam. But for mr.hotsia, who enjoys exploring less-visited cities, Dak Nong is a very interesting destination. Upon arrival, I found that this place has a simple charm and still retains the rawness of nature. It is perfect for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities and truly experience the lifestyle of local people in central Vietnam.

Travel and Accessibility

Traveling to Dak Nong is not complicated. Although there is no large airport in the province yet, I chose to take a bus from Lang Son, a province I have stayed in and experienced before (read my story atLang Son Province, Vietnam). The route between these two provinces takes you through mountains and vast rice fields, offering beautiful natural scenery that is clearly different from big cities like Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi.

If you like to travel like me, taking a bus or renting a motorcycle to explore Dak Nong will be a fun experience and bring you closer to the community. Here, I also found small local restaurants with bold and unique flavors unlike anything I have tried in northern Vietnam.

Lifestyle and Local Markets

The morning market in Dak Nong is a charm that impressed me a lot because it still maintains a truly local character. Fresh vegetables and fruits from nearby gardens and mountains are sold here, including native vegetables I had never seen before, as well as fresh tropical fruits that locals enthusiastically sell.

One dish I especially recommend trying is "Grilled Button Squid," a famous seafood dish from nearby Vietnam (I recorded a clip eating grilled button squid, which you can watch atGrilled Button Squid Vietnam). The taste of grilled squid here is different from elsewhere because it uses a blend of local spices, making the squid fragrant and moderately spicy—a flavor that mr.hotsia still fondly remembers.

Nature and Attractions in Dak Nong

For nature lovers, Dak Nong has national parks and beautiful waterfalls to explore, such as Dak Ring Waterfall, which I have visited. This waterfall has a peaceful atmosphere, shaded by lush green forests, and is accessible by motorcycle from the city.

Additionally, there is an opportunity to closely experience the indigenous tribal communities in the area. Here, you will learn about cultures and traditions that have been strongly preserved, as well as taste local foods not available in big cities. This is similar to my experience in nearby Lang Son Province, where I stayed at Hoang Son Hotel in the city center and enjoyed walking through the local market (read more atLang Son Province, Vietnam)

Travel Tips and Accommodation

Dak Nong does not yet have many luxury accommodations, but I chose to stay at a small homestay with very kind owners and affordable prices. This allowed me to talk more with locals and better understand their way of life. If you want this type of accommodation, I recommend asking or booking in advance directly with the owners.

Regarding internet and phone usage, I suggest preparing a Vietnamese 3G or 4G internet SIM card in advance because some areas in Dak Nong may have weak signals, similar to my experience in other provinces in Vietnam (recommended readingVietnam 3G Internet SIM) to make communication and information searching more convenient.

Summary of mr.hotsia’s Impressions of Dak Nong

For me, Dak Nong is a small corner of Vietnam that still preserves the completeness of nature and traditional culture very well. Traveling here feels like stopping time and immersing in a simplicity that cannot be found in big cities. The tranquility here is perfect for those who enjoy deep, unhurried travel and want to discover the true life of rural Vietnam.

If you have a chance to pass through upper central Vietnam, don’t forget to visit Dak Nong to experience this unique place for yourself. I, mr.hotsia, guarantee you will fall in love with this small city just like I did.
