Sipping Coffee in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, Vietnam

When it comes to Vietnamese coffee, many people mainly think of Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. But for me, mr.hotsia, having coffee in Dong Hoi City, Quang Binh Province, is an incredibly unique and charming experience. Dong Hoi is not a major tourist city like others in Vietnam, but it has a simple charm that made me fall in love the moment I arrived.

Dong Hoi is located in Quang Binh Province, which I passed through while traveling from Lang Son Province. At that time, I experienced the diversity of northern Vietnam with its high mountains and hot summer weather. However, Dong Hoi has a different atmosphere. Being on the coast, it enjoys cooler weather than other places, and importantly, the coffee here has a distinctive flavor.

The Charm of Dong Hoi Coffee

In the mornings in Dong Hoi, I often walk along small streets lined with local coffee shops. Most coffee here is strong and fragrant Vietnamese style, but what sets it apart is the roasting and brewing method using local coffee beans combined with traditional techniques, resulting in a smooth aroma and balanced taste that is not overly bitter.

I enjoy sitting and sipping coffee at small roadside shops, watching the daily life of Dong Hoi people starting their day—breakfast vendors, motorbike drivers, and passing students. Sipping coffee while observing life in this small town is a simple happiness I can’t find in big cities.

Coffee and Local Culture

Here, coffee is not just a drink but part of the local culture that connects people. I once talked with a small coffee shop owner who told me he inherited the coffee recipe from his parents and strives to maintain the quality to pass on the hometown pride to customers.

Besides coffee, Dong Hoi also offers Vietnamese dishes to try such as grilled button squid and Vietnamese chicken biryani, which I had the chance to taste from street vendors. Their mellow flavors pair perfectly with hot coffee, making a fulfilling breakfast for continuing the journey.

Life and Travel in Dong Hoi

Getting around Dong Hoi is convenient with affordable motorbike rentals. I usually use this method to explore the city and nearby attractions such as beautiful beaches and local markets with fresh produce.

For those interested in exploring further, I recommend visiting Lang Son Province, which I have traveled to and written about in my articles.Lang Son Province, VietnamIt offers diverse geography and culture equally fascinating, and the weather when I visited was cooler than many big cities in northern Vietnam.

Recommended Coffee Shops and Accommodation in Dong Hoi

In Dong Hoi, there are many coffee shops I want to recommend, such as small roadside cafes with friendly owners who brew coffee with genuine care. Sitting and sipping coffee in such a relaxed atmosphere reminds me of cafes inPhan Rangwhich I have visited before.

Accommodation options in this city are limited but include small, clean guesthouses at reasonable prices. I suggest booking in advance, especially during festivals or long holidays, as more tourists are discovering Dong Hoi.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

For me, Dong Hoi is not just a small city famous for coffee but a place where I truly experienced Vietnamese lifestyle. Sitting and sipping coffee here made me feel more connected to the city and its people. If you are looking for a Vietnamese coffee experience that is not just about refreshment but a journey full of stories and flavors, I recommend trying Dong Hoi at least once.

For those planning to explore northern Vietnam further, I recommend following my other articles such asLang Son Provinceor experiencing the atmosphere of Buddhist temples in Dalat atBuddhist Temples in Dalatwhich is another destination I love with endless stories to share.
