Bringing Large Grouper Fish on Basket Boats to Sell at Vietnam's Dong Hoi Morning Fish Market

When talking about morning fish markets in Vietnam, many might imagine the bustling atmosphere of small boats lined up along the riverbank. But for me, mr.hotsia, the Dong Hoi fish market has a unique charm unlike any other. Here, you can see basket boats floating on the water carrying freshly caught large grouper fish sold fresh and hot.

Traveling to Dong Hoi fish market is not difficult for me, mr.hotsia. Although it is not located in a well-known province, the atmosphere and the fishing community's way of life here are what I especially wanted to experience. Seeing the basket boats neatly lined up along with the bargaining sounds over the large grouper fish, the main product of this market, reminds me of the Vietnamese people's deep connection with the sea and rivers that sustain their lives inseparably.

Dong Hoi fish market is not just an ordinary fish market. It serves as a center for cultural exchange and fresh seafood directly from boats to dining tables in the city. Besides the star grouper fish, there are fresh squid, shrimp, and other fish types that locals choose to cook in their daily meals.

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to talk with local vendors here. Many shared that using basket boats to transport fish is more convenient and safer than using large boats because they float steadily on the water surface and help preserve the fish quality without damage during transport.

Dong Hoi fish market is located by the river, where the water is clear and gentle breezes blow. I strolled around the market with the fresh sea scent mixed with herbs and spices aromas from some vendors preparing local dishes. Witnessing the fishermen's lifestyle starting at dawn reminded me of my travels in other Vietnamese provinces I have visited, such asLang Son Provincewhere I experienced the warm atmosphere of local markets and trading.

For anyone interested in visiting Dong Hoi fish market in the morning, I, mr.hotsia, recommend coming very early. The atmosphere is at its liveliest, and you can closely observe the fishermen's work, an experience not easily found elsewhere. I also recorded a video of large grouper fish being loaded onto basket boats for sale at this market. Besides the fish market, Vietnam has many other interesting tourist attractions, such asBuddhist Temple in Da Lat Citywhere I, mr.hotsia, experienced the peaceful atmosphere and lake views, or traveling to Vinh Long bus station, an important hub for connecting to other southern provinces of Vietnam.

If you love seafood and enjoy the lively atmosphere of fresh markets, Dong Hoi fish market is a destination not to be missed. Besides seeing the special large grouper fish, you will learn about the fishing community's way of life deeply connected to streams and the sea. For me, mr.hotsia, this trip felt like touching the heart of Vietnam from a perspective many may never have seen before.

If you plan to visit northern Vietnam or nearby provinces, whether to explore nature or temples, don't forget to stop by Dong Hoi fish market at least once. I guarantee you will return home with full impressions.
