Eating ice cream while strolling in Quyền Bình Định, Vietnam with mr.hotsia

For me, mr.hotsia, traveling to Northern Vietnam always includes simple yet uniquely charming food. One of my most memorable experiences was walking in Quyền Bình Định city with a cold ice cream bar, a simple dessert that perfectly refreshed me on a hot Vietnamese day.

Quyền Bình Định city, although not as famous as larger cities like Lạng Sơn or Đà Lạt, truly reflects the natural local way of life. I traveled here from Lạng Sơn province, which I have explored before and written about in an article.Lạng Sơn Province, VietnamThis city has a warm and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for slow walks and finding food from street vendors.

My walk in Quyền Bình Định started with finding ice cream bars sold from small carts parked along main roads. I remember the ice cream here used fresh ingredients, had rich flavor, just the right sweetness, and most importantly, was very affordable. Just a few tens of thousands of dong got me a large, refreshing ice cream bar in hand.

While holding the ice cream, I noticed people strolling casually. Some carried small bowls of other local sweets like bualoy or sticky rice, which beautifully illustrated the simple life here. This walk reminded me of the atmosphere when I visited Buddhist temples in Đà Lạt.Buddhist Temples in Đà LạtWhere peace and nature blend perfectly with local life.

What I love most about walking with ice cream is seeing the true Vietnamese way of life — children playing in the streets, elders chatting on benches outside shops, and vendors calling out to customers in a friendly manner. Everything feels relaxed and heartwarming.

The city’s atmosphere retains the old Northern Vietnamese architecture with dark tiled roofs and aged wooden buildings along the streets. I walked slowly with ice cream in hand to a small river flowing through the city, a favorite spot to rest and watch locals go about their daily routines unhurriedly.

If you have read my articles before, you know I love exploring markets and local food. This walk in Quyền Bình Định was no different. I stopped by a small local market offering fresh vegetables, fruits, and a variety of Vietnamese snacks. Although ice cream was my chosen dessert, this market clearly showed the local lifestyle.

If you want to try the experience of walking and eating ice cream in Northern Vietnam, I recommend coming to Quyền Bình Định. Besides experiencing the simple local life, you can relax in a warm, friendly small town atmosphere. Traveling from Lạng Sơn province is convenient. If you want to read more about that province, I suggest the articleLạng Sơn Province, Vietnamthat I have written.

For those planning a trip to Northern Vietnam, don’t forget to add small towns like Quyền Bình Định to your list.
