Gai Lai (Gai Lai) Salay Province Vietnam: The charm hidden in simplicity

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to travel to Salay Province in the Gai Lai area of northern Vietnam. This trip was filled with many feelings — the tranquility of nature, the lifestyle of the people, and local flavors that few know but left a lasting impression on me.

Salay Province is not a big city or a famous tourist destination like Dalat or Nha Trang. But if you enjoy peace and want to experience authentic village life, Gai Lai is the perfect answer. I traveled from Lang Son as I mentioned in my article.Lang Son Province VietnamThis route allowed me to see the countryside and landscape of northern Vietnam from a different perspective.

Journey to Salay: A blend of nature and culture

Traveling to Salay was more challenging than I expected. Some roads are still dirt paths, and the terrain is mostly mountainous and hilly, similar to what I experienced in Lang Son Province. There, you find Ma Son Mountain reaching 1,541 meters, but Salay is greener with forests and grasslands. I recall the vehicle I rode passing through small villages where people still live simply, growing seasonal vegetables and raising animals.

The people here speak Vietnamese like those in big cities, but you can feel a warm and genuine friendliness that I never encountered in urban areas. I, mr.hotsia, spent relaxing time at Salay morning market, a small market combining local food and goods perfectly, similar to morning markets I have visited in many Vietnamese cities.

Food in Salay: Flavors you must try

When it comes to Vietnamese food, many might think of pho or fresh spring rolls, but Salay has interesting local dishes such asChicken Biryania local version different from what I have tasted in big cities. The biryani here is rich with spices and fragrant herbs. The grilled chicken served alongside is tender, not too dry, with a slight crispiness from charcoal grilling.

I, mr.hotsia, also tried grilled button squid, a seafood dish that, although not as fresh as the coastal seafood in Nha Trang I wrote about,Nha Trang sea beachthe squid here is sweet and firm, grilled over hot charcoal and served with a special local dipping sauce. It’s a flavor I recall every time I think of Salay.

Lifestyle and attractions in Salay

Besides food, I enjoyed observing the simple yet joyful lifestyle of the locals. Most villagers engage in agriculture and traditional crafts. Some still use traditional methods to produce tools and utensils. I witnessed hand weaving, an amazing art reflecting the indigenous tribal culture of this area.

If you are interested in religious and cultural sites, I recommend visiting the Buddhist temples in Dalat city, not far from here, which I have written about in an article.Buddhist temples in Dalat cityTang Lam Temple impressed me greatly with its peaceful atmosphere and beautiful views around the lake.

Travel tips and accommodation

For traveling to Salay, I recommend preparing well for routes and communication because this area still has limited internet coverage. If you need an internet SIM for general use, I have recommendedVietnam 3G internet SIMwhich helps make communication easier during the trip.

Accommodations in Salay are limited, mostly small and simple guesthouses. I, mr.hotsia, usually choose to stay in such hotels to truly experience the local atmosphere. If you want accommodation in nearby provinces like Lang Son, check out the options in my articleLang Son Province Vietnamwhich I have reviewed for comparison.

Summary of impressions from Salay

Gai Lai Salay Province is another destination I, mr.hotsia, want to recommend for those who love to immerse themselves in culture and nature. Here, you find not only beautiful landscapes but also the essence of traditional lifestyles and unique local flavors. I believe if you visit Salay, you will have wonderful memories just like I do every time I think of it.
