Hội An Morning Market Mackerel, Vietnam
Speaking of Hội An, a small coastal town in central Vietnam where I, mr.hotsia, traveled myself, one thing you must not miss is waking up early to stroll through the town's morning market. I experienced the fresh and uniquely vibrant fish market atmosphere here, especially the mackerel, which is famously excellent.
The Hội An morning market is located in the heart of the old town. It is bustling with local residents and vendors selling fresh seafood brought in from Nha Trang sea beach and nearby waters. I walked past rows of mackerel stalls, with large shiny silver mackerel neatly arranged on wooden and plastic trays, so clean and inviting that I wanted to take some home to fry right away.
The appeal is not only the fresh mackerel but also the unique preparation and selling style at this market. For example, the grilled mackerel, fragrant from traditional charcoal grills, with the scent of wood smoke and spices carried by the breeze, strongly stimulated my appetite. I ordered hot grilled mackerel to eat by the roadside with sticky rice and spicy seafood dipping sauce. It was so delicious I had to give it a thumbs up.
This morning market walk reminded me of my travel experience in northern Vietnam at Lang Son province, which I wrote about in a previous article. It is a province known for its local food and lively fresh markets.Lang Son Province, VietnamAlthough Hội An is in central Vietnam, experiencing local life through the morning market gives a similar feeling in terms of simplicity and freshness of ingredients.
Besides mackerel, the Hội An morning market offers a wide variety of seafood, including grilled button squid, which I have tried and recorded in a video.Vietnamese Grilled Button SquidAlso, Vietnamese chicken biryani with a rich flavor completely different from our local version (if interested, check the video).Vietnamese Chicken Biryani)
The Hội An morning market is a great starting point to get to know authentic Vietnamese food culture. This is not just an ordinary fresh market but a place that reflects the lifestyle and relationship of locals with seafood clearly. Importantly, prices are affordable and the flavors made me want to come back again for sure.
If anyone has a chance to visit central Vietnam, don't forget to stop by Hội An and wake up early to walk the morning market to experience the grilled mackerel and fresh seafood atmosphere that is not only delicious but also full of charm and the scent of the sea and Hội An local life.
For traveling to Hội An, I recommend planning to visit other cities in Vietnam as well, such as Dalat, which has beautiful Buddhist temples likeTruc Lam TempleAnd if you like the sea, Nha Trang is another destination I have checked in at.Nha Trang sea beachIt has beautiful beaches and many resorts to choose from for relaxation.
I, mr.hotsia, must say that the Hội An morning market and its mackerel are among the best food experiences I have ever encountered in Vietnam. If you also explore morning markets in other towns, you will better understand the diversity and depth of authentic Vietnamese food culture.
