Eating authentic Vietnamese Nem Nuong in Hội An, the beautiful ancient town of Quang Nam Province
For me, mr.hotsia, Vietnam is not only a land of beautiful nature or temples but also a food destination full of stories and flavors that you’ll find addictive. Nem Nuong in Hội An, Quang Nam Province, is something I had the chance to fully savor in the atmosphere of the ancient town that still preserves its local way of life.
Hội An is an ancient town known not only for its beautiful architecture and nostalgic atmosphere but also as a hub of authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I must say, “The Nem Nuong here is amazing.” It’s a dish that blends the culture of Central Vietnam, using fresh local ingredients and each family’s secret recipe, making the flavors uniquely charming.
The Journey to the Nem Nuong Shops in Hội An
I traveled from Lang Son, where I stayed and explored the markets,Lang Son Province, Vietnamto Hội An by bus and local motorbike. Experiencing the friendliness of the locals made the trip enjoyable. Hội An is perfect for strolling and street food hunting, especially in the evening when the ancient market buzzes with vendors' calls and tempting food aromas.
Hội An Nem Nuong: More Than Just Vietnamese Pork Sausage
For mr.hotsia, Nem Nuong in Hội An is not just ordinary pork sausage marinated with spices and fresh vegetables. Every dish is carefully prepared, from the pork sausage marinated with unique spices to achieve a balanced flavor—not too sour or salty—to the fresh vegetables served crisp as if just picked from the garden. The rice paper wrapping is so thin you can almost see the filling inside, giving a perfectly balanced texture.
What impressed me most was the “dipping sauce,” a special recipe that varies by shop but generally is a sweet and sour sauce with the aroma of finely ground peanuts that pairs unbelievably well with Nem Nuong. Eating Nem Nuong with fresh vegetables and this sauce by the riverside or in the dimly lit ancient market creates a warm feeling, like dining at an old friend’s home.
Recommended Shops Visited by mr.hotsia
I highly recommend a small shop in an alley near Hội An’s night market. Besides the superb Nem Nuong, the atmosphere is very friendly. The owner happily chats and recommends seasonal dishes from Central Vietnam.
If anyone is interested in seeing the Nem Nuong dining atmosphere as experienced by mr.hotsia, I have recorded a video onmy YouTube channelwhere you can see how lively and impressive the dining experience here is.
Hội An: An Ancient Town Beyond Food
Besides food, Hội An is a town full of historical and cultural stories. I once strolled along the Thu Bon River in the evening, seeing wooden boats lined up and orange lanterns hanging along the streets. It was a scene both peaceful and vibrant at the same time.
If you visit Central Vietnam, don’t miss Hội An and the full experience of eating Nem Nuong here. The freshness of ingredients and the dedication of the cooks will make you feel, like mr.hotsia, that you are truly experiencing Vietnam’s stories through authentic flavors.
