Mr.hotsia Reviews Vietnamese Food in Hội An, Quang Nam Province

When talking about Vietnam, many people think of the beauty of nature, history, and deep culture. But for mr.hotsia, equally captivating is “Vietnamese food,” especially in the city of Hội An, Quang Nam Province, which I recently experienced myself.

Hội An is a UNESCO World Heritage city charming for its ancient architecture and traditional lifestyle. But for me, strolling through local markets and tasting food at small eateries is the true joy that makes me feel closest to the locals.

The Charm of Hội An Food Through mr.hotsia’s Eyes

The first time I walked through the morning market in Hội An, the aroma of fresh herbs and spices hit my nose immediately. The surrounding stalls were full of fresh ingredients—fresh vegetables, fresh fish, grilled pork, and carefully handmade Vietnamese desserts. I tried the “Vietnamese Chicken Biryani,” fragrant with spices and soft, tender rice, along with “Grilled Button Squid,” grilled to a fragrant crisp outside and tender inside, slightly salty and a bit sweet—a flavor I had never encountered before.

At night, Hội An transforms into a city of beautiful lantern lights. Riverside restaurants dim their lights with soft traditional music playing. I chose to sit at a riverside restaurant to try “Măn Zao,” a famous snack made from mashed sweet potatoes mixed with flour, fried until crispy outside and soft inside, topped with a special dipping sauce that is sweet, sour, and moderately spicy. It’s a flavor I crave every time I visit.

Lifestyle and Travel in Hội An with mr.hotsia

Another thing I really enjoyed was walking around the old town that still preserves its classic charm well. Narrow streets paved with large stones, friendly vendors selling fresh goods. I chatted and exchanged with locals and gained a deep understanding of their food culture.

Traveling to Hội An is easy. I flew into Da Nang city, then took a bus or taxi about 30 kilometers, which is very convenient. If you want to explore other towns in Quang Nam Province, I recommend visiting Lang Son Province nearby, which I have written about in an article.Lang Son Province, VietnamThere you will find beautiful mountain views and unique local cuisine.

Recommended Dishes and Places to Eat in Hội An by mr.hotsia

If you go to Hội An and don’t try “Bánh bèo,” steamed rice cakes made from rice flour topped with dried shrimp and radish served with sweet dipping sauce, you’re missing out. The small shop in a narrow alley where I stopped had such a balanced flavor that I returned several days in a row.

Another dish I was impressed with is “Hội An Noodle Soup” (Gỏi cuốn Hội An) with chewy noodles, rich broth with grilled pork and fresh vegetables, served with fresh chili and lime. If you like bold flavors, this is a must-try.

For coffee lovers, Hội An does not disappoint. I tried Vietnamese coffee at a small roadside shop. The coffee was strong, sweetened with condensed milk, a drink that energized me all day. If you want a chill experience not far away, I recommend reading aboutCoffee Shops in Phan Rangwhich I have also written about, in case you have a chance to visit next.

Closing Remarks from mr.hotsia: Hội An, City of Flavors and Culture

For mr.hotsia, Hội An is not just an ordinary tourist city but a place full of warm people and deep flavors beyond expectations. Every bite tells a story of the community and culture passed down through generations.
