Ha Nam Province, Ha Nam, Vietnam: Hidden Beauty Near the Big City

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to travel to a province in Vietnam that many people might not be very familiar with. That is Ha Nam Province, or simply called "Ha Nam" by Thai people. It is a small province located not far from Hanoi but full of tranquility, simple lifestyles, and interesting tourist spots suitable for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of big cities.

After traveling from Hanoi by car for just over an hour, I experienced the authentic Vietnamese rural atmosphere with vast green fields, traditional houses, and a small bustling market filled with local villagers. I stayed at a small guesthouse whose owner was very kind and recommended local dishes I had never tried before.

Lifestyle and Local Market in Ha Nam

One of my first impressions was walking through the morning market in Ha Nam town. The market here is not as large as in Lang Son city where I previously stayed (read more atLang Son Province, Vietnam) but it has its own charm, offering fresh vegetables, seasonal fruits, and local snacks that look fresh and delicious. I tried grilled pork and hot sticky rice freshly made by the shop owner. The aroma of Vietnamese spices made me feel like eating home-cooked food full of care.

This market is also a meeting point for locals to shop and exchange news. Walking through this market gave me a real glimpse of Ha Nam’s culture and lifestyle, different from the commercial tourist spots I have encountered before.

Nature and Must-Visit Attractions

Ha Nam Province is not only about markets and lifestyle but also has beautiful natural spots to explore, such as small lakes surrounded by low hills and seasonal flower gardens carefully tended by locals. On the day I visited, the weather was pleasantly cool, perfect for strolling and capturing truly beautiful nature photos.

Compared to Lang Son Province, which I visited before and is known for steep mountains and many beautiful caves, Ha Nam offers a peaceful atmosphere suitable for those who want to relax slowly. Although it lacks large tourist attractions, the simplicity and nature here made me feel very relaxed.

Local Food Not to Miss in Ha Nam

Food is another important aspect I, mr.hotsia, focus on during every trip. In Ha Nam, I tried local dishes with mild flavors and fresh ingredients, such as "Vietnamese Chicken Biryani" which has a gentle spice aroma, fragrant and tender chicken. This kind of food reminded me of the warmth of rural Vietnamese families.

Additionally, I tasted grilled button squid at a street restaurant in town. Although it is a simple dish, the flavor was rich and very satisfying. It is perfect for seafood lovers who enjoy fresh ingredients from nearby markets.

Travel and Tips for Tourists

Traveling to Ha Nam Province is convenient from Hanoi by car or local bus, taking no more than two hours. This makes it suitable for a day trip or an overnight stay. There are several accommodations available, which may not be luxurious like in big cities but focus on comfort and the friendliness of the owners.

For those who have visited nearby provinces like Lang Son, which I have written about before (Lang Son Province, Vietnam), visiting Ha Nam will offer a different feeling and complement your northern Vietnam travel experience well.

Summary of Impressions from mr.hotsia

Ha Nam Province is a place I, mr.hotsia, highly recommend for those who want to experience the true rural lifestyle of Vietnam without traveling far to big cities or crowded tourist spots. It has simple charm, beautiful nature, delicious food, and friendly people.

If you are planning a trip to northern Vietnam, try to include this province in your itinerary. Besides gaining new experiences, it will also broaden your perspective on travel in a way different from what you have known.
