Edible boiled fresh tea leaves in Ha Tinh, Vietnam: A unique experience with mr.hotsia

When talking about Vietnam, many people often imagine ancient towns, colonial buildings by the river, or beautiful beaches like in Nha Trang (read about Nha Trang sea beach with me, mr.hotsia, inthis article). But this time, I want to take friends to experience another side of Vietnam that is rarely talked about: the experience of eating boiled fresh tea leaves in Ha Tinh, a central Vietnamese province that still retains simplicity and an interesting rural lifestyle.

I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to travel to Ha Tinh last year, on a route connecting big cities to rural areas that still maintain traditional ways of life, unlike the big city of Lang Son that I visited before (click to readLang Son Province, Vietnam). There, the mountains are high and the air is cool, but Ha Tinh gives a warm feeling, as if returning to a peaceful and simpler time.

Edible Boiled Fresh Tea Leaves: A Unique and Special Dish in Ha Tinh

For someone like me from Thailand, accustomed to drinking dried tea leaves or processed green tea, seeing edible boiled fresh tea leaves in Ha Tinh was a very new experience. These fresh tea leaves are not picked for brewing tea in the usual way but are boiled in hot water until soft with a mild flavor, becoming a local dish that families enjoy for regular and special meals.

The first time I, mr.hotsia, tried these boiled fresh tea leaves, I secretly wondered, “Can this really be eaten?” But when I tasted it, the flavor was surprisingly mellow and refreshing. The leaves were soft, not too bitter, and still retained a clear light tea aroma, mixed with a little broth seasoned by locals with herbs and salt. It seemed like a simple dish but had a deep flavor I had never encountered before.

In Ha Tinh’s local market, I saw villagers carefully selecting fresh tea leaves before boiling them to eat, which is very different from buying tea bags or dried leaves at regular shops. I didn’t miss the chance to buy some fresh tea leaves as souvenirs for my friends at home. It was a way to experience life and culture through authentic food.

Connecting Travel in Northern and Central Vietnam

For traveling to Ha Tinh, which is not far from the main route in central Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, took a short trip from Lang Son city mentioned earlier. This journey showed me clear differences in geography and culture changing from province to province. From Lang Son, a mountainous city with cool weather, to Ha Tinh with hot and humid weather and a more rural lifestyle.

If anyone really wants to visit Vietnam, I recommend taking the chance to stop by local markets and try famous dishes from each area, just like I tried boiled fresh tea leaves in Ha Tinh, a simple dish with an extraordinary charm.

Impressions from mr.hotsia and Travel Tips

Experiencing edible boiled fresh tea leaves in Ha Tinh made me, mr.hotsia, feel the beauty of a rural lifestyle that firmly preserves cultural roots despite the fast-changing world. For those who enjoy lifestyle travel and want to try something new beyond famous tourist spots, I recommend visiting here once. You will see another side of Vietnam full of warmth and simplicity.

For traveling, prepare for hot and humid weather, don’t forget to carry drinking water, and try talking with locals to learn culture through food and lifestyle. This will give you a deeper and more memorable experience.

If you want to know more about other sides of Vietnam, I, mr.hotsia, recommend not missing a visit toLang Son Provincewhich is full of mountains and cool weather, or if you want to relax by the sea, check outNha Trang Sea Beachwith beautiful beaches, clear water, and many fun activities.
