ho chi minh 2016 Saigon Ho Chi Minh: A true experience from mr.hotsia
I, mr.hotsia, had the opportunity to visitHo Chi Minh Cityor as many still commonly call it “Saigon.” In 2016, my visit to this city was not just a casual trip but a deep dive into the real life of the locals, full of vibrant colors and many interesting stories.
Starting with the atmosphere of a major city in southern Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh is a city that perfectly blends the old with the modern. Stepping out of Tan Son Nhat Airport, I felt the bustling energy of a city that never sleeps. Motorbikes crowded every street, car horns sounded frequently — a scene familiar to me in southern Vietnam, but for me, it was excitement in every step.
Accommodation in Ho Chi Minh offers a wide range, from luxury 5-star hotels to small guesthouses with affordable prices. I chose to stay in District 1, the city center, which is convenient for travel and close to markets and many local restaurants.
Morning Market Walk: A Fascinating Real Life
On my first morning in Ho Chi Minh, I woke up early and headed to Ben Thanh Market, a market full of fresh produce, local food, and various goods. The atmosphere reminded me ofMukdahan Morning Marketwhich I had visited in northern Vietnam, but here it was more chaotic and full of the vibrant energy of southern city life.
I tried delicious breakfast dishes such aschicken biryaniandgrilled button squidwhich I had learned the recipes and preparation methods fromYouTubeandmukbang clipsEating fresh food from the market and experiencing the local atmosphere helped me understand southern Vietnamese food culture better.
Getting Around Ho Chi Minh: Challenges and Fun
Getting around Ho Chi Minh is not as easy as it seems for those unfamiliar with riding motorbikes or hailing taxis. I myself almost got taken to the wrong place, similar to what happened atVinh Long Bus Stationso communication with taxi drivers is something to be very careful about.
I chose to use Mai Linh taxis, which are considered quite reliable, or sometimes motorbike taxis to get into small alleys where cars cannot reach. Walking is also a good way to explore the city because you can see shops, coffee shops, and local life up close.
Experience Local Life and Coffee Shops
Like I experienced incoffee shops in Phan RangHo Chi Minh also has many Vietnamese-style coffee shops lining the streets. I enjoyed sipping traditional Vietnamese coffee made with strong coffee poured over ice and sweetened condensed milk. The rich aroma of coffee mixed with the lively sounds of people created a unique atmosphere.
Besides coffee, the city offers a variety of street food to try, from bánh mì Vietnamese sandwiches to fresh spring rolls and even hot grilled barbecue that I found in the night market area.
Night Market Experience and Evening Vibrancy
Nights in Ho Chi Minh are full of colors different from the daytime. I strolled through the night market filled with various foods and goods. The music from roadside restaurants, people chatting, and the smell of fresh grilled seafood made me feel like part of the local life.
I also tried local dishes rarely seen in Thailand such asgrilled button squidwith its rich and fresh flavor as seen inmukbang clipswhich was an unforgettable experience.
Connecting with Travel in Northern and Central Vietnam
Although Ho Chi Minh is in southern Vietnam, my travels in Vietnam were not limited to just here. I also visited Lang Son Province in the north,Lang Son Province, Vietnamwhich is full of high mountains and interesting local culture, including Dalat city with beautiful Buddhist temples likeTruc Lam Templewhich has a peaceful atmosphere and beautiful lake views.
Comparing lifestyles and atmospheres in each area helped me understand the diversity of Vietnam more and made Ho Chi Minh even more charming in its own unique way, different from other cities in the country.
Summary of Experience: Ho Chi Minh, a City That Never Stops Moving
For me, mr.hotsia, traveling to Ho Chi Minh in 2016 was opening a door to a new world of southern Vietnam, full of energy and vibrancy. This is not just an ordinary tourist city but a city full of stories of people, lifestyles, and food that blend perfectly.
If you are looking to experience Vietnam from a true perspective, coming here will show you a unique way of life. And if you love adventures in a colorful city, Ho Chi Minh will definitely not disappoint you.
