Fragrant, Sweet, Delicious Vietnamese Sweets in Hoi An | Hoi An sweets

I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit and experience the atmosphere of Hoi An city, Vietnam, a small town full of cultural charm and diverse cuisine. Especially the “sweets,” which are a highlight not to be missed. Besides their fragrant, sweet, and delicious taste, they also reflect the lifestyle and attention to detail of the Vietnamese people in an interesting way.

Hoi An is a World Heritage city filled with ancient architecture and an enchanting atmosphere. Walking along the old streets, I could smell the aroma of sweets wafting from small shops in various alleys. Here, at every meal or throughout the day, there are many kinds of Vietnamese sweets to try, from treats made from glutinous rice flour shaped into cute forms with mildly sweet fillings, to sweets made from natural ingredients such as mung beans, fresh coconut milk, and palm sugar that add just the right amount of fragrant sweetness.

My favorite sweet in Hoi An is “Bánh bèo,” which means a thin steamed rice cake topped with dried shrimp, squid, or shredded pork, drizzled with a perfectly balanced sweet, sour, and salty dipping sauce. When eating, you scoop it up with a spoon to taste all at once. The soft texture of the cake combined with the crunchy toppings makes me feel that this sweet is more than just a dessert; it represents authentic Vietnamese eating culture.

Besides Bánh bèo, there is also “Bánh đúc,” a steamed rice flour cake with a smooth and soft texture, usually eaten with peanut sauce or sweet coconut milk. I tried it and really liked it because the sweetness of the coconut milk and the richness of the peanuts blend surprisingly well.

Hoi An also offers sweets like “Bánh cam” or “Bánh rán,” which are fried dough balls filled with sweet mashed mung beans, coated lightly with white sesame seeds, and fried until golden and crispy. The inside is soft, fragrant, and sweet, with a crispy outside and tender inside that I cannot forget. While walking through the evening market or strolling along the ancient river, I often see vendors carrying trays of these sweets, a scene that reflects the lifestyle and warmth of the locals.

Tasting sweets in Hoi An is not just about flavor but also about learning and experiencing the local culture genuinely. I recommend you try entering small, unpretentious sweet shops or those popular with locals because that’s where you’ll find traditional sweets that still preserve authentic flavors and ancient preparation methods.

When talking about traveling in northern Vietnam, many might think of Lang Son province, which I have mentioned in an article before.Lang Son Province, VietnamThat place is full of beautiful mountains and perfectly blended local food, but Hoi An is also another destination offering a uniquely interesting sweet food experience, which I, mr.hotsia, want you to try for yourself.

For travelers planning to continue to other provinces in Vietnam, I recommend planning your trip toVinh Long Bus Stationwhich is a major transfer point in the south. Or if you like the sea, don’t miss stopping byNha Trang Sea Beachwhich has beautiful beaches and a peaceful atmosphere, perfect for relaxing after enjoying sweets in Hoi An.

Additionally, for those concerned about internet connectivity while traveling in Vietnam, I have recommendedVietnam 3G Internet SIMwhich makes planning and searching for travel information much more convenient.

Finally, Vietnamese sweets in Hoi An are an experience I, mr.hotsia, want everyone to try themselves because it’s not just about the fragrant, sweet, and delicious taste but also about opening the door to understanding the culture and lifestyle of the Vietnamese people in this ancient town.
