mr.hotsia's Exciting Trip to Đồng Hới City, Quảng Bình Province mrhotsia at Đồng Hới Quảng Bình Vietnam
When talking about Central Vietnam, many people probably think of big cities like Hội An, Đà Nẵng, or Huế. But for mr.hotsia, “Đồng Hới City” in Quảng Bình Province is a destination that impressed me deeply and I want to invite everyone to experience it at least once. Đồng Hới is a city with its own unique charm, from nature, local lifestyle, to the local food that I can say is "satisfying" in every bite.
My journey to Đồng Hới started with an overnight train from Hanoi, arriving just in time in the morning. Waking up to cool, comfortable weather and lush green mountain views on both sides of the track made me even more excited for this adventure. Đồng Hới is not a large city, but it is peaceful, charming, and full of natural stories waiting to be discovered.
Local Lifestyle and Markets
I wandered through the morning market in Đồng Hới. The market was lively and full of people in traditional attire selling fresh seafood, vegetables, and fruits. I tried freshly grilled button squid, sweet and tender with a slight spicy kick—a perfect start to my breakfast. There was also Vietnamese chicken biryani, fragrant with spices and soft rice, which I tasted from a market stall. The rich and balanced flavors made me want to come back and try it many more times.

Nature and Attractions in Đồng Hới
Đồng Hới city is located near Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng National Park, a famous natural World Heritage site in Vietnam. Visiting Đồng Hới is like a gateway to exploring some of the most beautiful caves and nature in Southeast Asia. I had the chance to visit the extensive and complex Phong Nha cave, as well as other beautiful caves that have well-preserved natural environments.
Besides nature, Đồng Hới also has beaches that I recommend for an evening stroll. The beaches are clean and less crowded compared to those in major tourist cities I have visited, such as Nha Trang sea beach, which I have traveled to and shared my experience.Nha Trang sea beachHowever, here it is more peaceful and private, perfect for watching the sunset or just chilling while walking on the fine sandy beach, which is incredibly enjoyable.
Food and Flavors Not to Miss
Food in Đồng Hới is another highlight that impressed mr.hotsia a lot. I tried many local dishes with both bold and mild flavors, such as the grilled button squid I mentioned earlier or fresh spring rolls as street food. Most ingredients are fresh from the sea and local sources, making the taste delicious and refreshing. There are also small coffee shops serving strong Vietnamese coffee, which I recommend trying after walking around the market or exploring the city.

Transportation and Accommodation in Đồng Hới
For traveling to Đồng Hới city, I recommend using train or bus services from big cities like Hanoi or Đà Nẵng because they are convenient and affordable. Once there, most local transportation is by motorbike or local taxis, which are widely available. However, be cautious about communication with drivers as English may not always be fluent.
Accommodation in Đồng Hới ranges from budget guesthouses to mid-range hotels. I stayed at a small guesthouse where the owner was friendly and provided great travel information, making city travel much easier.
