Đông Hà, Vietnam: Gateway to History and Border Life
I, mr.hotsia, had the chance to visit Đông Hà, a small town located in the upper central region of Vietnam. Đông Hà is a place many may not know well, but it holds a deep charm and interest in its own right, especially in terms of history, lifestyle, and local cuisine that you definitely should not miss.
The Route and Atmosphere I Experienced
I traveled to Đông Hà by bus from the major city of Hoi An, and it didn’t take long to reach this quiet town that still buzzes with the lively spirit of its locals. I stayed at a small guesthouse run by a kind owner, warm like a second home. Around the town, there is a fresh market where I explored and tasted local dishes.
The atmosphere in Đông Hà is similar to that of Lạng Sơn Province, which I had passed through before.Lạng Sơn Provinceis an area full of mountains and beautiful nature. Đông Hà combines that atmosphere with the character of a border town bustling with trade and diverse travel.
Lifestyle and Local Markets
What impressed me most in Đông Hà was the simple lifestyle of the people, deeply connected to nature. The fresh market here is the community’s center. I saw vendors and children selling fresh vegetables, fruits, and seafood caught from the northern Vietnamese coast.
Market-side foods like chicken biryani and grilled button squid are my favorites that I never miss. Take a look atVietnamese Chicken BiryaniorVietnamese Grilled Button Squidwhich I have filmed on previous trips. You can see that authentic Vietnamese food is full of flavor and fresh ingredients easily found locally.
Historical Significance of Đông Hà
Đông Hà is not just a peaceful small town; it was also a crucial strategic point in Vietnam’s history during the Vietnam War. I visited various sites that still preserve traces of the past very well. The atmosphere here made me feel the stories and memories of the people from the past reflected through these places.
Recommended Activities Not to Miss
I recommend taking a morning walk around the town to enjoy the fresh atmosphere and see the colorful morning market full of fresh food and handmade goods. Also, visiting nearby beaches is a great experience for those who love the sea and relaxing by the shore.
If you enjoy temples, I suggest planning a visit to the Buddhist temples in Dalat, which are beautiful and very peaceful. You can read more in my articleBuddhist Temples in Dalaton my site.
Travel and Accommodation in Đông Hà
Getting to Đông Hà is easy with convenient bus and taxi services. I traveled from Lạng Sơn, where I had stayed before, which is not far away. Choosing to stay in a small guesthouse in town allowed me to experience the community closely and get local recommendations.
If you are interested in accommodations, I have recommended a small hotel I stayed at in another Vietnamese city,Viet Tri Citywhich has a similar atmosphere and suits travelers who prefer simplicity.
Summary from mr.hotsia
Đông Hà is a town I, mr.hotsia, was very impressed with. Besides experiencing authentic local life, I learned about historical stories and enjoyed delicious food that is hard to find in big cities. It is a place perfect for those who want a deep travel experience, not just a quick visit.
For anyone planning to travel to northern and upper central Vietnam, I highly recommend not missing the small town of Đông Hà, which will complete your travel experience perfectly.
