Fish Ball Noodles Đồng Hới Quảng Bình Vietnam Đồng Hới Quảng Bình Vietnam
When talking about Đồng Hới city, Quảng Bình province in Vietnam, many might think of beautiful caves like Phong Nha Cave or the pristine nature. But for me, mr.hotsia, what truly impressed me and I want to share is the “Fish Ball Noodles” here.
I traveled to Đồng Hới one evening after exploring the nature and old town of Quảng Bình. The fatigue from the journey was replaced by a craving to try local food, and this fish ball noodle dish was one I had heard praised for a long time as truly delicious.
Street atmosphere and fish ball noodle shop
In Đồng Hới city, fish ball noodle shops are usually small roadside stalls with simple plastic tables and chairs but are always full of customers. I sat down amidst the lively atmosphere of this small town. The fragrant sweet broth and the freshness of the fish balls stimulated my appetite almost irresistibly.
The broth here is different from fish noodle soups in Bangkok or central Thailand. It is clear and sweetly balanced from fish bones and local spices. I like that the fish balls have a bouncy texture and a distinct seafood flavor, not just ordinary minced fish shaped into balls. The fish balls are freshly made daily and come directly from fishermen in the nearby sea.
Unique eating method and flavor
For mr.hotsia, eating Đồng Hới fish ball noodles requires attention to small details such as adding fresh chili, lime juice, and fresh herbs like culantro or basil to enhance the aroma and zest of the flavor. I enjoy sipping the hot broth along with the bouncy fish balls floating in the bowl.
The noodles used are mostly thin rice noodles or vermicelli, which absorb the broth well and are light on the stomach. My favorite dish is the “Mixed Fish Ball Noodles” which includes real fish balls, fish meat, and sometimes grilled button squid or squid to add a spicier taste.
Travel and accommodation in Đồng Hới
For travelers wanting to visit Đồng Hới, Quảng Bình province, transportation is very convenient. There are trains and buses connecting from major cities like Hanoi and Da Nang. I have driven this route myself and stopped in Đồng Hới before continuing to Phong Nha Cave.
In the city center, there are many hotels and guesthouses to choose from. If you want budget accommodation, mr.hotsia recommends trying small guesthouses with friendly owners to truly experience local life. Or if you prefer convenience, there are mid-range hotels near the market and train station for easy travel and dining.
