Unique desserts in Đồng Hới, Quảng Bình, Vietnam

If you love traveling following mr.hotsia's footsteps, I invite you to taste a new experience with stories of traditional desserts in Đồng Hới (Đồng Hới), Quảng Bình Province, Vietnam. This city may not be frequently mentioned among international travelers, but for me, Đồng Hới is a destination that hides exciting local food and dessert treasures.

Đồng Hới is a small coastal city in Quảng Bình Province, located in central Vietnam. The city is peaceful with a simple lifestyle and serves as a transit point before heading to the world-famous Phong Nha Cave. However, what interests me more is trying unique desserts that truly blend Vietnamese culinary culture.

Morning Market Walk in Đồng Hới: Hunting for Local Desserts

I started my day by walking through the morning market in the heart of Đồng Hới. This market is full of vibrant fresh ingredients and local foods. The aroma of spices and the lively atmosphere of vendors make it as bustling as other big cities I've visited. Among the various foods on display, intriguing unique desserts were lined up inviting me to try them myself.

One dessert I tried was “Bánh Bột Lọc,” made from translucent tapioca flour with a chewy texture, filled with minced pork or dried shrimp. The flavor is mild and fragrant with sweet chili sauce drizzled on top. There is also “Bánh Xèo,” a Vietnamese pancake fried until crispy, served with a special dipping sauce from Quảng Bình, different from what I've tasted in other cities.

The Unique Desserts of Đồng Hới That mr.hotsia Must Try

But what excited me the most was a dessert called“Chè”a sweet soup dessert containing mung beans, black beans, palm fruit, and shredded coconut mixed with brown sugar and coconut milk. The taste is sweet and creamy but not greasy, perfect for the hot weather of this city. This type of dessert can be found in local markets generally, but the flavor and ingredients in Đồng Hới have a unique character that made me feel like truly experiencing the local culture.

Additionally, mr.hotsia discovered a dessert made from grilled button squid, a famous seafood in central Vietnam. Small squids are grilled over charcoal until fragrant, served with chili sauce and lime. This dish is highly recommended for seafood lovers. The sweet and tender squid combined with the spicy sour sauce is truly unforgettable.

Connecting Experiences with Other Provinces in Vietnam

This trip to Đồng Hới reminded me of experiences I had in other provinces of Vietnam, such asLạng Sơn Provincewhere I previously traveled and stayed in Lạng Sơn city, which also has local foods and desserts reflecting the northern regional culture differently. Or if anyone is interested in Buddhist temples and lifestyle in Đà Lạt city, you can check out my travel experience atBuddhist Temples in Đà Lạtwhich offers another interesting perspective of Vietnam.

For travelers who love the sea and fresh seafood, Nha Trang city with its beautiful beaches is a destination not to be missed. More details can be found atNha Trang Sea Beachwhich offers seafood and an atmosphere perfect for relaxation.
