Nghe An: The Charm of Northern Vietnam That mr.hotsia Must Share

When talking about Northern Vietnam, many might think of Hanoi or Sapa, but for mr.hotsia, the provinceNghe An (Nghe An)is one of the destinations I want to recommend you experience yourself. Nghe An is a province not very well known among foreign tourists, but for those who love deep travel, exploring local lifestyles and authentic nature, this is the answer.

I traveled to Nghe An out of curiosity to know more about this province after having visited nearby provinces likeLang Sonwhich features mountainous terrain and hot weather in summer. Nghe An itself has diverse geography, from river plains to high mountains, and it is also the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh. This makes it a province full of interesting history and culture.

Local Markets and Must-Try Local Food

The first thing mr.hotsia does when arriving in a new city is to visit the local market. Nghe An did not disappoint. The fresh market in the city center is very lively. From early dawn, locals come to buy fresh goods including vegetables, fruits, and fresh seafood caught from nearby coasts. I tried the grilled button squid, a famous dish of Northern Vietnam. It has a mild, sweet aroma and tastes delicious paired with hot sticky rice—definitely a thumbs up. There is also Vietnamese chicken biryani that is distinctly different from other places. I remember a small stall in the market that used fragrant spices that were strong but not too spicy. It was a great breakfast and gave me energy for the whole day. (If interested, you can watch the Vietnamese chicken biryani video here)Vietnamese Chicken Biryani)

Nature and Challenging Travel

Nghe An is not just good in the city, but I recommend exploring the surrounding nature as well. The province has many beautiful mountains and caves that are not yet overwhelmed by tourists, similar to my experience visiting mountains and lakes in Lang Son province (Read about Lang Son Province) where the atmosphere in Nghe An is similarly peaceful and truly natural.

Traveling in Nghe An can be quite challenging for those not used to driving on rural roads. Some areas still have dirt roads, and communication might not be as convenient as in big cities. But mr.hotsia sees this as part of the charm of traveling—experiencing the real life of locals and seeing perspectives that typical tourists might never see.

Warm Local Lifestyle and Culture

I was impressed by the friendliness of the locals here. Every time I went to the market or small eateries, people greeted me with smiles and were ready to help. Although language was sometimes a barrier, smiles and body language created a warm and welcoming feeling.

If anyone wants to try distinctive Vietnamese coffee, I have written about a coffee shop in Phan Rang with a great atmosphere and delicious coffee. Although not directly in Nghe An, traveling to nearby provinces can enrich your authentic Vietnamese coffee experience.Coffee Shop in Phan RangAnother destination I recommend stopping by

Travel and Accommodation Recommendations in Nghe An

For traveling to Nghe An, I recommend starting from major cities in Northern Vietnam like Hanoi. If you really love adventure, using local buses and motorbikes will give you more insight into local life, as I have experienced.Vinh Long Bus Stationin Southern Vietnam is an important transfer point. Nghe An also has basic transportation systems supporting local travel.

Regarding accommodation in Nghe An, there are not many luxury hotels like in popular provinces, but there are small guesthouses and homestays that are comfortable and affordable. I usually choose these to truly experience the local atmosphere.

Summary of mr.hotsia's Impressions of Nghe An

For me, Nghe An is a province with a raw charm that travelers like mr.hotsia appreciate more than just visiting famous tourist spots crowded with tourists. Nghe An feels like stepping back to experience real local life. Although the weather can be hot in some seasons, the peace and natural beauty easily make you forget about that.

For anyone interested in changing from the usual travel style and wanting to deeply experience Vietnam, Nghe An is the answer that mr.hotsia recommends you visit. I guarantee you will take home different and impressive memories.
